I took this piccie on holiday in Mexico last week and as I was walking along I thought to myself thats a nice 200sx. When I got closer to it I realised that it was badged up as a Nissan 240SX

How wierd ??? or is that the format that they were released as in USA/Mexico, does this mean that it is a 2400cc Motor ??? Surely it does ? Maybe I just don't know enough about the SX to acknowledge that there was A 240sx model produced.

Wherabouts in Mexico was that mate? Wasn't Cancun by any chance?

Kay, It certainly was Cancun.

It's silly I know but that bit of driveway looks excactly like where I stayed, and there was a 200sx there too. Didn't pay it much attention at the time, I was on my honeymoon a month and a half ago in the Blue Bay Club. The cars over there are wild, never seen so many Beetles on the road at the same time lol. The driving is even wilder though! Amazing place eh? Which hotel did you end up in?

It's what the S14 200SX was called in the US - it's a grocery getter over there though :( 155bhp KA24DE N/A engine, and with the auto box a staggering 10seconds to 60 (according to some review I read)..

Kay, I stayed at The Imperial Laguna Hotel, it was by the Pok ta Pok Golf Course about half a mile in towards town from the Fat Tuesdays Beach.

aaronjb, thats an awful performance spec for an S14, so do you reckon it isn't a 2400cc motor then ??

Nope - it's definitely 2400cc (hence the 24 in KA24DE ;)), just an emissions strangled US specification engine.. IIRC it's only ever been fitted to US market cars.

We in the UK had the 200zx as a 2litre turbo, whilst the yanks got a 240sx with a 2.4litre naturally aspirated motor. Apart from that their basically the same car excluding all the differences between UK and USA cars. If that makes any sense lol

when i was in canada

i saw a s13 220sx is that the same us spec only

I'm pretty sure that's where we stayed about 4 or 5 years ago. :)

Dave Marley, Cool that you may have stayed in the same place, would you go back to Cancun ???

I reckon if that 2.4 Litre motor was converted fron an N/A to a turbo and de-restricted then it would be a real flyer in a car so light by comparison to a 300zx. Have any of the 200sx boys in the UK caught on to this and actually done a conversion ??? I would be interested to know what the performance is if it has been done ???

The usual route followed by us tuners is to dump the (frankly awful) ka24 engine, and replace it with the jap (and uk) spec sr20det engine - 200 - 250 bhp to start, tuneable to 500+ bhp.

I've had a search and it was definitely there that we stayed. :D

I thought Cancun was great, if a bit Americanised. :hyper:

There were distinct advantages to staying somewhere like the Imperial Laguna as it's not all-inclusive, so you don't have to wear a wristband. Anyone with a wristband seems to be assumed to be American, there for 4 or 5 days with a lot of money to spend, so they get ripped off.

I thought the Imperial Laguna was a bit far from the action to be ideal, as it's about half way between the mainland and all the bars on the corner of the peninsula, but the public transport is cheap and really easy to use, so it's no big deal at all. It's also a lot cheaper than a lot of the other places and really you just want somewhere to have a rest before going to the beach/bars again. :)

The only thing that would possibly put me off going back would be the stomach upsets that seem to be incredibly easy to pick up and not so easy to shake off.

Dos Equis, tequila and jalapenos...

Oh yes I had the RUNS Big time, I had to go and get some tablets. Definately too many Jalapenos, Tequila and various Mexican lagers...

That's got to be the best quote ever :D And it was right

"All the driveways, in all the world....... And you had to walk into mine...." :D

It is rather Bizzare but true, well spotted...
