Just back from a final exploratory trip to Canada and since I unexpectedly got a very good job offer from a company who is also willing to pay all my relocation expenses as well it looks like we will be gone in about 4 - 6 months as long as we can get our house sold in time.

The bad news is that I can't take the Zeds (Canadian mean spirited regulations :( ). I need them until closer to the event, but a blue L reg unmodified UK manual 65k (VGC) plus a red H reg unmodified UK manual 185k(Needs TLC but a good spare Zed which still runs well:) ) will be becoming available. So if anyone might be interested in the future please PM me.

Sob, Zeds are rare, twice the price and not usable in the Winter in Canada.

Spent two weeks in March around the Toronto area and only saw one Zed! A red NA by the Uni. A minger at that.

Expected to see a lot more of them.

I was in Toronto too in September and only saw one red N/A, a two-seater. Also a minger - the same car maybe !!

I was in Miami a week or so ago and again only saw one. I was asking a guy I got talking to in a 'speed and custom' shop about the Z and he said that they were still prohibitively expensive over there !!

Can our terrible resale values be down to the cost of fuel and our bad fuel consumption maybe ? A little ?

There's at least one very nice Z in Canada (and I've read of at least another one on the west coast too) - but you're right, a lot rarer than in the US..

That's real Lambo yellow too.. mmmm, niice.. (99 front, Kaminari wing IIRC and j-spec tails) It's in Quebec somewhere.. (The guys name is George IIRC on TTnet)

And I don't know about them being unaffordably expensive in the states - I wouldn't call £8k expensive for a car with these mods:

Stillen Intake

JWT ECU

Apexi AVC-r Boost Controller

HKS Turbo Exhaust (4" tip)

Stillen Test Pipes

Custom X-pipe

Intercooler Spray System (triggered @ 7psi)

Underdrive Crank Pulley

NGK Plugs (#6)

HKS ALC II Transmission Controller

Transmission Cooler (not installed)

HKS Turbo Timer

Auto Meter Boost Gauge (A-pillar mounted)

Eibach Springs

300 Degree Camber Kit

18" Kosei Seneka S5R (18x8f & 18x9r)

Dunlop SP8000E (235/40-18f & 275/35-18r)

Brembo Cross-drilled Rotors (front)

Nissan Skyline Cross-drilled Rotors (rear)

Goodridge SS Brake Lines

Axxis M.M. Brake Pads

Clear Corner Park/Turn Lights

Painted Calipers (Red)

PIAA Superwhites

Mobile 1 Engine Oil

Redline ATF

Neo 610 Brake Fluid

That's a 91 car, currently for sale in Phoenix, Arizona..

I'd say the prices were just more realistic, unline the ridiculously depressed used car prices in the UK at the moment ;)

IMHO, etc.

expensive by American standards I think!

brand New 2005 Mustang 4.7l 0-60 in under 5, top spd limited to 155 $20000 I mean FFS! thats 10k for a brand spankin lovely car

When I was in florida last month, the ads for new cars made me sick!

but then again I drove a Chrysler Sebring Convertible.... looked the part, but drove like a wobbly boat in the mid atlantic that was oar powered!

Had a Sebring hire car for the two weeks. I was sea sick every time the gradient changed. Plus the accelerator pedal just seemed to be there to make more noise rather than to make the car go faster

True, but which would you rather have? I know which I'd rather be driving ;)

Anyhow, I still wouldn't call £8k prohibitively expensive - unless maybe you're earning a couple of bucks an hour flipping burgers ;) Even then there seem to be a few Z owners who do just that!

*reapplies nose to grindstone*

Anyone know what side skirts are on the yellow Z? Stillen maybe?

Yup - ZEngineer's profile

From that, they're "Stillen Side Skirts w/ Door Fillers" :) Good guess..

hehe I know what I'd rather have too, but for 10K new... you cant even get a sh!tty focus for that here! would be a nice Daily driver ;) (if you didn't live too far away from work  )

And as long as you took your seasickness meds before setting off on a morning  :)

Hi There bud,

just been looking at some old threads and this one caught my eye. You out in canada yet? I'm in Winnipeg at the moment for the week, moving out here in may. looked into bringing my Z out and it can be done if it is 15 years old, however, if it is younger like mine you can bring it out and drive it as a uk car registered back in england for 18 months, this time can be extended if you apply and should be granted. TT's are rocking horse shit out here and get tons of respect especialy RHD jap spec. if you look at the local autotrader you can sell a mint one for $25k upwards, even RHD. will be hanging on to mine though.

Will be moving to Vancouver next year, best roads in the world!! Where abouts in canada are you?

Haven't quite made it yet. New job in Calgary starts on 1st June.

Taking the Zeds seems like one hell of a problem due to Transport Canada Regulations. My older one is 15 years old but to be quite honest she has seen better days due to having covered the best part of 200k miles. The newer one is only 12 years old and I would love to take her. I had never heard of your approach to driving her as a UK registered are for a period. Are you planning to stay in Canada or move back at some stage? We're planning to stay permanently, so how would you handle a refusal to extend the registration or if you planned to sell her how can you sell a UK registered car in Canada. The other issue appears to be the insurance premiums. We will need a couple of four wheel drives for daya to day driving during the Calagry Winter, the premiums for which will be painful enough, but insuring a Zed as a new immigrant in the land of snow sounds like it will be time to start selling my organs to pay for the insurance. I drove her in the snow once before and don't plan to repeat the experience.

I'll start work out here begining of june also, and yes I plan to stay.

Didn't realise your Z was so new, Mine is 13 years old so less of a problem, and i'm willing to take the risk, I'll only have to wait 6 months if they dont extend it past the 18 months period.(probably rebuild the engine or something) once 15 years old they will accept it. I do have a friend out here who's buddy works for vehicle registration, i'll have another chat with him see if there is any other loopholes. He also seems to think that you can carry over your no claims discount to the canadian insurance Autopack.(being a comonwealth) I agree the Z would not suit the winters, thats when you need a truck, But the summers are long and hot, Calgary has some awesome roads into the rockies, be a shame if you have to leave the Z behind. You could always swap the reg plate with the older Z

LMFAO That's the funniest thing I've read for a while.

Glad to see they didn't over react ! :xxx:

Oh, and this.....

Opinions aside, what I did find upsetting is they went on and on about leaf springs. They did not mention what they were made of or how little mass they possessed. Sadly they are not clever enough to see the leaf spring design is a very effective one.

:x:

Ok, after several phone calls and being transferred around several government call centers, customs and Transport Canada this is basically how it is.

If you are coming to Canada on a work permit you can import a car for a maximum of 36 months at which point if it has reached 15 years old you can register the vehicle in Canada. However if you have applied for perminent residency this does not apply, or as soon as you do apply for residency the vehicle will have to be retured to the uk. Not sure how you are coming into Canada but that is basically how it is. I am coming on a work Visa to start with and because my missus is Canadian she can sponser me after a year. so this method will work for me.

As far as Insurance, I have been to the local Autopack and they seem to think that you can transfere your no claims, this will give you 25% off, which is the maximum discount. Got a quote for my Z and was $1125CAD about 490 pounds.

here are some Numbers that may be of help to you, dialing code for Canada is 001

Manitoba Autopac 985-7000 (not sure of No for Alberta)

Customs 1800 461 9999

Transport Canada 1800 333 0371

Hope this helps,

Andy

Many thanks for all your efforts Andy.

Looks like I'm hosed though. I'm coming as a skilled worker and need to apply for permanent residency as soon as possible. Although I could in theory just use renewals on my work permit for 3 years, the financial state of the company that I will be working for is such that they might not survive that long, so I need to get the permant residence as soon as possible to avoid the possibility of being asked to leave :)
