 :( :slap: :nono:

After 16 years of driving I finally get my 1st ever speeding ticket. The rozzers got me with one of them mobile money making vans a month ago on the Kings Road, Reading.

I do remember the day too, I saw a nice gap ahead in the traffic and the old duffer in front was plodding along at 20mph or something like that, so I blipped the old zed pedal and whizzed past a couple of cars in the right hand lane and then saw the camera van- it must have been at least 150 yards ahead, so banged on the anchors and assumed I got away with it. But them new van cameras must have some fancy zoom lens! So beware lads.

They got me at 48 in a 30 which I am ashamed about so I'll take my £60 fine and 3 points like a man.

Had better screw work for a few extra hours pay ;)

ooof ul mate, I did the same a while back 40 in a 30 and the b&^%^rds got me when I was 20yds away from the national speed limit marker exiting a village, but I said my stepfather was driving....

he lives in Greece & very very rarely comes over here, so he was cool about it

Cheers guys. I know I was going too fast, but it was for all of about 3 seconds and TBH- on that 4 lane stretch of busiest road in Reading, if there are any pedestrians playing there and not using the pelican crossings, they would deserve to be run over. Its not an accident black spot, so its definitely a money making stealth tax plan. This particular van made the headlines a while back as being the top money-making camera in the country. Shame they cant move it 3 miles north onto the road into Reading where at least 6 people die every year and many more injured on A4074- dubbed 'The 7 Bends of Death' There are usually crosses placed on each bend!

I'm starting to rant now- it must be sinking in that its gonna cost me £60 now and probably more than that each year for the next 3 years on insurance. :(

I thought they only had 14 days to send you the NIP? Or does that no longer work?

Received mine today and it was dated time of the offence as 1st Sept.

What do reckon lads? Can Aaron get me let off on this one?

Here we go..

I have recently been flashed by a Gatso camera, what happens next? The Police have 14 days to send you a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP). They also get an allowance of a couple of days for the post to deliver it. So if its more than 17days since you were flashed they are too late to prosecute you, unless you were driving a company car, hire car or someone elses car. In these circumstances they are allowed more time to track you down. See below for further details.

More info here - http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/FAQ/FAQ.htm

The Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) arrived outside of the "14" day period. You should be able to get the prosecution dropped - get our lawyers to write you a legal letter and it should go away. This is assuming that you are the registered owner of the vehicle.

Unless your address was wrong, in which case they have more time to find you..

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, every time I hear this sort of thing I seriously consider getting a snooper.

Shit man that does suck hairy balls.

Im just waiting for my first any time. I cant be lucky forever, mind you i dont speed much at all, it's just the past three times I've gone out and given my car a tickle i've been pulled so dont bother anymore :(

sucks mate,

a point reguarding bends: there are limitations where the vans can be used and speed cameras place, and I believe on a bend is one place they cannot be used.

Was it a computer generated notice? If so I think they have 28 days to notufy you. Not what you wanted to hear sorry :x:

It's still over 28 days (plus a reasonable time for posting) though.. Although as I say, I don't know if the time rule even still stands - knowing our wonderful country it's probably been removed so that they can prosecute you 20 years later if they wish and then claim interest on the amount ;)

Great init, when you collect all twelve you dont need a licence. How brill is that.So no licence equals no road tax or insurance to find or MOT.Just think of all the money yer can save. Then you can drive at what ever speed suits you just like most of the Tw$tts do around here and the Police dont even bother with em,"GREAT INIT"

As far as im aware the NIP 14 day thing is so that you have no reasonable excuse for not remembering who was driving, how can you be expected to remember who was driving your car 7 WEEKS ago at such and such a time etc (assuming that the car wasnt stopped by the police at the time?)

Id see a solicitor for a free consultation if i were you, think you may be in with a fighting chance on this one.

Good Luck.

On a similar note, i'd like to thank the discovery driver who flashed his lights like crazy at me yesterday as i was driving down coventry road at about 39/40mph, i slowed to 30 and as i rounded the bend a camera van was dead ahead of me!! To return the favour i flashed the 3 cars coming the other way in an attemp to save them too.

Sureley motorist need to get together and make a unique signal for a camera ahead, like 3 flashes, or 2 short flashes followed by one long flash etc. so everyone will know when these bastids are out.

People have been fined and charged for warning other drivers of police with cameras

As far as Iam aware, as long as the car is registered in your name the fuzz have 14 days to generate a ticket and get it out to you. I got one 3 months later, when I tried it on they said because I was not the registered driver, the clock stops each time they hit a blank.(fail to contact the registered owner). I have since crushed the car as saving 6 points to me is worth alot more than any car.

What an fab idea :D

Give it to me and I will crush it for you. Whats the use of having a Z without a license, come on you know you want too ;)

You're right there as the car probably wasnt registered to me then but a few weeks before I had sent and signed the form saying that I bought he car back in March so shot myself in the foot there. Shame, I could have stiched up the feckas I bought the car off. I expect they have been trying to track me down since. But now I have a log book that says I got the car back in March so dont have a leg to stand on. I did look at most of the get out tricks on the web, but this new form seems to stop all that. I bet If I tried to fight it, I'd end up with massive court costs. The only way we could all beat them is for everyone in the country to contest the tickets, then the system would collapse! But me like everyone else dont want to be the first sacrificial one to protest and get hit with fines. So I guess that will never happen. Better start getting quotes for the zed insurance to see if I can afford it in the new year.

Unlucky Al, i got had last friday by a copper with a speed gun, 45 in

a 30 :x: (3 pts £60!), went to produce my docs earlier, realising

i had my wallet stolen about a year ago, i therefore had no licence

to produce ( haven't needed it till now, forgot all about it!), explained

the situation to the desk sergeant, who then read me my rights!

Seems its gonna have to be dealt with by a court now. Have applied

for a another licence, but it seems its too little, too late!

Gonna have to bite the bullet & probably pay another fine on top

of the £60!!

The thing that really pisses me off is....my ex-wife regularly drives

around with no mot, tax, insurance, licence. She's been banned from

driving about 3 times now. The police know she's driving illegally,

but nothing happens! She even carries her kids about in the car too!

My daughter is 14 now, she knows not to get in a car with her mum...

What a shitty situation to be in, cant even get a lift from your mum!

But i s'pose thats life! Hey Ho...back to work!

I think the 14 days to post the NIP only applies to fixed speed cameras.

Oh righty then
