hullo,

feeling the need to wash the car but i'm going to be really anal about it as i've just had it sprayed. Is it wise to use those broom type brushes attached to the garage pressure washes or will they leave those horrible little scratches in the paint?

I'm a bit of a rookie when it comes to actually looking after a car properly, i;ve always been a lazy git in the past and just shoved them through the car wash or had a valet place do them!! :slap:

(got some meguirs polish today too, cant wait for a dry weekend so I can pamper the car!)

Is this a serious question? How much do you value your paint job?

Yes, the brushes WILL scratch your paint, after the 50,000 other customers have cleaned off all their caked-on mud and road crap.

Would you use someone elses bath sponge? :nono: :slap:

I wouldn't, get some decent shampoo like AutoGlym's and use a nice sponge!

good old bucket and sponge is the best way to be one with your Z, feel those lines mmmmmmmmmmm

I spent a lot of money on a paint job and I gotta be totally honest I use the jet wash and I cannot see any marks left by the brushes. If I had a Black car however I probably wouldn't chance it...

What colour is your car anyway ???

lol I thought I would get the piss taken for that one! :)

It was actually a serious question, never having given a sh1t about the paintwork on any car I've ever owned I'd never thought about it much in the past!

I think I may invest in my own pressure washer and some nice sponges! (I dont even own a car washing sponge!!!!)

Tattoo man, the car is gayside blue (sorry bayside) so would probably show all those little scratches really badly on a sunny day.

somebody close this thread now before I really get ripped for asking such a dumb question! :D

Try to avoid pressure washers mate, water gets into places

where you really dont need it! Just use a new sponge, car shampoo,

(i use turtlewax), and a decent chamois leather.

Never ever ever ever ever use washing up liquid to wash your car!

:D Maguires full range of products for me:D from hand mitts to polish mitts, shampoo to polish:cool: you cant go wrong with any of there products.....

Only hand wash the car bud if you value your paint work....:D

Maguires is top quality stuff and I love their polishing Mitts...

just been to harry halfords and invested in a cheapo pressure washer, more for getting the salt out from under the wheelarches and under the car than anything else, never seen the point at blasting away at the paint with high pressure water! also invested in some nice soft polishing bits and bobs along with a small fortune of meguirs stuff!!

Traditional advice was that on freshly applied paint you should use nothing more than cold water for a couple of months, until it's hardened properly, unless of course it was baked on. Dunno whether that's any different form 2-pack etc

Clean it with a wire brush.. :D :D :D

Clean it with a wire brush.. :D :D :D

yep and dry with sandpaper for a real glossy shit finish

my mate works with a guy who washed an x-reg (new) BMW

with a scouring pad, because a bird had crapped on the roof, said

it looked lovely....... till the water dried!

Never ! What a Belle*d...

Whilst it's still pretty wet weather, this stuff is really good;

It's a piece'o'piss to use and keeps the shine up until it's a dry w/e for a proper wax-job.

For the final shine use either Autoglym Gold Connassieur or Maguire's

For stuburn deposits a blow lamp can be used. Also to assist drying time empty one gallon of Optimax over the car and innite with blow torch. This ensures that all those annoying little dribbles that spoil your finish are completely dry and will not run durring buffing. :D :D
