Theres some old posts on this,a few of us on here have,good handling,especialy on the twisty bits,apart from that,not my cup of tea :D

Lead Sled. It's big and heavy. You cant do much in terms of upgrades since the transfer cases wont handle the power. I test drove it the day i bought my Z and it just didn't feel right. The Z was WAY better all around.

I also get the impression there is far FAR more to go wrong on the GT than the Z...

The top of the line VR4 (I think) with 4wd, traction control, 6 speed box and 320bhp stock is pretty nice. handles likes its on rails but only cos of all the electronic gizmos (and the 4wd!)

 

More to go wrong than a zed but prob a bit easier to do work on, seems a bit more engine bay space and the tubs are nice and easy to get at! can be done on the driveway!!

 

parts however seem to be a bit of a nightmare, me and a buddy are doing similar work to our cars (mine the zed and his fancy pants 3000gt) and he still hasnt managed to get hold of some uprated brake disks! he has also had more niggles with his and its a 1995 model (although his is a daily driver)

 

IMHO good cars but not my cup of tea, I dont like the looks to be honest a bit too "bat mobile" ...

I had them down as around 1800kg as opposed to the zed being somewhere in the region of 1600?

 

And yeah, when they go wrong, ooooh boy do they go wrong !!!

Im pretty sure a zed is a touch over 1400kg and the 3000gt is over 1800kg !!! im guessing a lot of the difference is down to all the extra drivetrain required for 4wd... and all the extra crud like speed activated spoilers!

 

Did you know some model have a "stealth" mode which shuts off one of the tailpipes to make the exhaust quieter??!?!?!?!?!?!

 

another of the amazingly over-engineering bits on these cars, the interior light, doesnt have an on/off button like every other one on the planet, has two separate buttons one for on one for off! if anybody can fathom a reason for this answers on a postcard to mr. nutty mitsi degisner, tokyo, japan...

 

EDIT: whoops, just been reliably informed that a stock zed is actually 1580kgs.... so not such a massive difference but still a lot heavier!!!

HHmmm thats why TERMINAL VELOCITY event was awash with ZX's trouncing GTO's on the strip..... I think not.

 

Ive posted about this b4 so I wont go on too much but Ive had both a 300zx and a GTO which I currently have. Both Twin Turbo.

The "lardy" crap that comes out of peoples mouths everytime they refer to "their rival" is just that... a 4wd with that low a centre of gravity can handle so lets put that one to rest.!

 

 

As for you cant do much upgrading because the transfer box cant handle it.. what school of mechanics did YOU come from?

properly looked after the transfer box will happily see around 600 brake! Its the shagged ones that havent been looked after that go, a bit like box's on your cars, no different!

 

a FREE mod is removing the boost solenoid grommet and you should easily hope to see around 20+ bhp for starters.... Air filter, SAFC2, DSBC, 450 injectors, walbro 255 fuel pump with hotwire should see you nudging the near 400bhp mark for under a grand!

 

Theres not much more to go wrong in a GTO than a ZX... ask anyone whos had to change their tubs in a Zed!!

 

DAVIDO I should get your friend to hollar me because if he is having trouble getting uprated brake parts he must have his eyes shut. There are companies in GTOuk queing up to supply these!

 

The weight is not all that different as just been realised.

 

Whatever is your personal taste I guess. But at least cuss a car for genuine reasons, not false claims!

One thing I miss more than anything is my T-tops on my ZED. One thing I WONT miss is driving it in snow or ice this winter ha ha

dont get me wrong I do rate them as a very good car, just not my cup o tea. I will point my mate in the direction of gtouk, i think he's prob not on there as he doesnt have the internet at home yet.

 

the six speed box is a work of genius, because the car has bags of torque like the zed it pulls really well even in 6th! top end is also mental too!

 

and yes the TC is a BIG plus for the winter, especially when compared to an auto zed (like mine!) not looking forward to unwanted downshifts on a roundabout this winter!! :)

One fault I have is with the early models..

 

On the Mark 2 there is a nice 6spd Box, but on the Mark 1's a 5 speed wich means increadibly nice long accellerating gears BUT very undrivable around town.

 

When you approach a roundabout or junction, usually if you are still coasting, second will see you out of it but with the GTO the revs drop FAR too low so you have to shift to 1st, but then who likes shifting into first when a cars still moving at a half decent appraoach-pace? Its kinda wierd...

Set of injectors, intake, fuel pump etc. all for less than a oner? You sure bud?

Totally, ExtremePSI do a kit of 550 injectors, Walbro 255 fuel pump & SAFC2 for £362....

Then add a DCBC adjustable boost for £238 from Dynamics...

A Matrix intake, I paid £70 for mine...

 

When I went to school that added up to £670 matey!!

 

Add a Decat pipe for around £65, and £265 for a EK2 Downpipe brings you to a total of....

 

£1000

Had the choice before I bought my Z between a Supra, GTO, Impreza, and the 300ZX

3000GTO very nice to drive but too heavy and not as quick as the Z - it was the 6 Speed version too!! Supra was the best but too much money compared with what you got over the Z - bugger all!! and the impreza just didn't handle at-all + to slow compared with the other 3Ltr clan!! Z is always best value for money and rear wheel drive means you're always having fun!!!

LOL The kit for the GTO is on there ;)

 

Ha,so its a US site,so with the duty,shipping costs etc its going to cost me more than £362 :(
