Why is a 1980 Porsche 911 worth twice as much as a 1990-94 300ZX TT ?!?

The 300 is newer, better engineered and rarer. But I'm forgetting...it's not a Porsche !!

The mentality of the average car buyer is scary.

My mate has a Carrera 2 soft top and I borrowed it for the weekend a few years ago and what a nasty heap of shit it is to drive LOL,I could not wait to hand him the keys back.

My dad owned a 1989 Porsche 911 and he has admitted that the Z is better in virutally all catagories.

Admittedly I've driven a K reg twin tubby 911 convertible and a K reg twin tubby modified zed and I preferred the zed to drive. The porsche was very cumbersome and awkward, especially the pedals - and the view out of the windows was disturbingly bad!

Actually preferred the Porsche 944 S2 I'd driven the year before that - but again, not over the zed (Except maybe for handling, the S2 was very grippy and tight :) )

How new are those 225 Meganes? Would have been funny if he'd blown the engine after forgetting he was still supposed to be running it in. :D

I bet they come pre-run in.

Eddies K reg zed by chance? :D

might have been  ;):D

in all fairness i would sooner have a porker than a z any day of the week. yes the z is a supercar but to compare a 911 to a z is daft ill bet 90% of peeps would go for the prker also if they were being honest both are 2 completely diffrent drivers

I must be one of those nuts then, because I've driven the older Porshes and think they are crap. 90% of 10yrs + porkers have sh1te electrics and your lucky if the speedo works never mind the windows. I could buy a Newish Porshe If I wanted. For God sake by the end of this month I will have spent the best part of £18,000 this year on my Z.

I knew how much it would cost. I did it because I want a 300ZX and if I get a different sports car it will be a Noble not a Porshe. Though I agree that the later 996's and 911's are a better car than they used to be they just aint my thing.

How the **** can you compare a porsche to a nissan!! Its like comparing a lada to a lambo FFS. I know u lot love your cars but come on their cheap as chips because they are as cheap as chips. Its no good moaning about their value, demand dictates value and there aint none! Get over it:D

£5.62 still burning a hole in my pocket Nelson!

My neighbour has a Boxster and he admits my 300 is better looking. The 300s faster too.

My g/f got a lift from an ex of hers in his Boxter and she said it wasn't as nice as the Nissan and "a bit hairdressery".

I've got nothing against Toyotas either. My sister has a diesel one.

I thought we were comparing proper porsches? :hyper:

Im not saying the 300 isnt better than this or that BUT there is no desire from the public to buy one, hence the price of Zeds. Boxters will always sell because people like to drive a porsche at budget prices. By the way I hate porsches :)

Those of you expected a price rise due to rarity will be waiting a long long time. If you like the car and like to mod it then great no problem! If you dont then expect to get what someones willing to pay! £5.60p

Fair enough... g/f's boss has a 1994 911 Targa II. I think it only makes about 250bhp which isn't amazing considering what it cost.

She said 'it looked like a beetle and he drove it like a wuss'.

I've gotta admit 'proper' Porches are nice though. I'd still rather have a Skyline R34 V-spec or one of them 2002 Supras with six gears etc. With an LED nitrous purge kit.

I agree. I expect my 300 to depreciate away until I have to pay the scrappy to take it away. If it did become collectable and go up in value, I'd be delighted but amazed.

The public are stupid.

5 pound 60 for a Z, 7 pound 20 for a poop, 20 pound for a pork, I'll take the Z thanks :)

I think the ZX has a reddeming quality that the Porker will NEVER have... a PROPER performance car that can hold its own against the "branded" performers but at a price that will allow the avarage driver to experience it!

And its not about affording to buy one is it... as we all know any ol sod can afford to buy a Zed, its running the bugger that stings ya!

Im contemplating (in a coupe of years of saving) purchasing a '93 low milage Ferarri 348 left hooker, as its the best chance I'll have of owning one of these cars.

Its the same as your missus blowing out a high quality made handbag for £25 in favour of a Gucci one for around £90. Do you think its any better or just a named brand?

It is puzzling why the Zed is so damn cheap to buy though.. oner guess is they are expensive to run, insure?? Shame but on the other hand good news for us!

Reason their cheep is because they are expensive to run. People who cannot afford to run them buy them the don't maintain them so the next person buys it and it cost him an arm and leg. Hence the Idea that they are unreliable and expensive.

I bought mine from a friend who had it from almost new. I have every bill for this car. I then did 90,000 miles with no problems at all until I blew her up.

So to me if I spend £20 odd grand on her its still cheeper than buying another High performance car in the condition she is now in.

Good value and miles better than a comon Porker. Lets face it a mint 911 TT GT 4 at 9 year old would cost me about £25 to £30,000 and still get blown away by my Z in it pressent incarnation

AMEN to that! There are SO MANY of these around that people have bought coz they are 'cheap supercars', and not bothered spending a penny on them and then people wonder why they go wrong!

My pal ended up buying my ZX from me because he knew i'd looked after it, and likewize the next owner can be assured that He has looked after it since my sale to him... thus far the car has had no problems.

Porsches do tend to still hold silly money dont they. I mean 15k buys you nothing but old and dated Porkers.... 15k would build you a head-turning Zed! ( and I bet it would be faster!)

and not bothered spending a penny on them

Why would you wanna do that? They aint that cheap yet ;)

They are cheap enough for Mr. Gary-boy-racer to buy, and ok he may blow a stack on the insurance but you can bet that he'll neglect to spend out big on a decent cam-belt, tentioners, waterpump & pully service... is what I mean.

Look in Auto-trader and there are many ZX's for around £3.5-£4 Grand.. not expensive at all. But tell someone they should spend out around £700 on a good 60k mile service etc and watch them not bother!

Thats why Id only buy from a club member if I was purchasing in this country.
