Loads of people say the 'advantage' of an NA is 'increased reliability' and less expense. I don't know how to test it out, apart from the fact that my car has just devoured another £400. Is an NA *really* more reliable than a TT???

Vote on things that have actually gone wrong rather than just an upgrade.

I've had slave cylinder, master cylinder, tyres, exhaust, and 2 minor prangs- probably about £2000!!!

Right now thats cleared up go cry in the corner and sulk cos you bought the wrong car :x: ;)

You guys forget the basic statistical fact that

n= Sq Z(1-4) / n x Func ( W/34-sq17) x78^3/ root12 / 100%

t = 1000 x c^2 (yu .12) -100

when s = 4

Doncha see!!!!!

Wrong!!!

If you do you maths it shows them to be about on par

ie NA

hardlyany thing = 40%

100-400 = 40%

400-1000 = 0%

over 1000 = 20%

TT

hardlyany thing = 9%

100-400 = 45%

400-1000 = 26%

over 1000 = 20%

Which proves without a doubt that the cost of having real power is about the same as having a prettendy Z :slap:

If you use a medium figure for each category (except the top one which you double), you get annual figs:

NA: £520

TT: £788

Put like that, maybe it's well worth the extra £268 a year for that extra power. I thought it would be more.

After paying a £1000 when the turbo went on my 200SX I swore I'd never get another second hand turbo car. if I had a grand to spend I'd want to go to thailand for a month to mend a car.

I'm not tryint to have a go or anything, it's just a bit of fun.

And I think I'm just a tight sod / anally retentive!

I have been for a year :D Mines cost over £2000 on bits and pieces- £1000 of that my fault from bodywork needing repaired

I think you maybe right. Infact if you went for a month you'd save a £1000 from not spending at home. BRILLIANT!!! THATS IT!!! :)

Next time owt goes wrong with mine again I'm off to Thailand for a month to save up and have it repaired

Well in the last two years I have had a second hand gearbox, clutch, timing belt/water pump/tensioner kit, welding to sills, front crossmember, coil pack connectors, injector connectors, temp sender harness, about 3 sets of tyres, just about a full set of brake pipes, subframe and diff bushes, front top link, front shox, heater matrix, fog lamp wiring, several oil changes, and PCV valves. Still to do engine/turbo removal and rework, rear wheel bearing or diff, tailgate or spoiler replacement, leaky targa's to sort and air con pipes need replacement.

I think thats all. Probably some more.

Climbing onto the soap box

"At the end of the day, what you spent on your car in a year is nothing to do with whether your car is more expensive to maintain than another or not, you would have to look at the overall history taking in to account how it was driven to access it correctly. I would think reliability is something people with none turbo cars use as selling lingo or justification for the lack of power, when you buy a 15 year old performance car, maintainance costs dont come into the decision to buy it".

Climbing off the soap box.

Bye the way Ivan ive some silicone if you still have a leaking targa works ace on mine mate, not had a drip in three months. pm me your address mate.

  • 1 year later...

I've owned my NA for about 2 years now.

In that time it has cost me

£loads on mods

£usual on servicing/tyres etc

£feck all on repairs

So, i cant complain :hyper:

well i've spend £310 on repairs in the last month, the only month i've owned it. :headvswal

should only have cost £20 for a new clutch hose but due to a rather embarrassing dunt it cost almost £300 more :x:

needs new front disks asap so that'll cost a bit.

I bought mine off ebay for £2300 and in the first year I spent £2400 without counting tyres, insurance and fuel.

There have been no mods, it's all been spent on keeping it safe and legal, and mine's a N/A! I should have just bought a TT that was in good nick (with a proper service history)

I'm a feckin' iditot...

Blimey Scotty!-where d'ya dig this up? :D

Feck knows. lol

It was on the 'new threads' section. Somebody must have voted.

bottom end rebuild,

1 headlight bulb,

locking wheel nuts hacked off as key didnt fit,new locking wheel nuts,

lots of colour magic polish

hairloss from extreme stress

2 months of ownership-affectionately known as the "Money Pit"

owned since november, having reconditioned engine put in (all checked and 12 month guarantee) but one of the turbos as it had it too. If its was a NA then I wouldnt have any turbos to replace and the engine woudnt need replacing either (due to the previous owners stupidity), as it was turbo related. BUT. My brother has a NA and hes spent an estimated £3000-£4000 on repairs and servicing in 3 years. The head gasket accounts for near enough half of this but its still a lot aint it. Begs the question, why did I buy a twin turbo Zed knowing that he had to spend so much on his NA. Well, im mad!

Since this started I've spent £12K on an engine melt down and engine number 3 is sat on the stand just waiting its shiny new chrome plenum and water pipes to arrive before fitting. £30K is well in the past
