In my block we are having a sattelite dish installed and just wondered if there any alternatives to the sky sattelite box ;)

Yeah Freeview matey, one off payment and mainly has the channels that most peeps watch the most...unless you watch most of your subscribed Sky channels that is.

Unless the dish is set up to receive more than just the standard sky satellites at 29E, there's not a great deal of point getting anything other than a sky or sky+ box as you won't be able to get any extra channels. :(

If it's some sort of multi-satellite setup, then that's a different matter.

Sky plus box with the hard drive. Brill for harvesting all the stuff you would watch if you ever had the time! Bought one on ebay, thought just plug the sod in but no you have to ask nicely for Mr sky to enable it then needed a quad lnb thing on my dish so it could record 2 progs at once then up on the roof and fitted it too. At least that way my youngest gets to watch sponge bob square pants any time she wants! Me cant get near it! Pic quality is superb when compared to cable and its great to scream through ads at 30X normal speed.

Tivo does indeed work with sky. It won't do dual recording, but it will work fine.
