My everyday car's insurance is up, so thought I would have a bit of a phone around as you do. (my renewal is not drastic, but the company I am with still havent sorted out a rear-end shunt I had in Feb!!!)

So I am on the phone, Name, DOB, inside leg measurement, the usual and they ask if I have any convictions in the last five years? I have, I said, an SP30 in the last five years but it is off my licence now. "doesnt matter, still affects your premium".

Now if the law makes you (or your licence) do 3 years "time" for a motoring offence and then discards it from the accounting, how the hell do insurance companies get away with using it against you?? Its like getting 5 yrs for a withdrawal from your local post office (avec side-by-side) doing your bird like a good boy, then as your walking out the door, some tw@t desides your good for another couple of years.

I now realise why you dont see insurance brokers in the high st anymore, they probably got sick of being pulled over the jump and given a slap :mac1:

Yeah! What is that all about? "Declareable" for 5 years????? says fookin who? Good enough for boys in blue....good enough for me! FFS.

Thing that pisses me off with insurance is that they will NOT accept time spent on a motorbike going towards your car NCB, but they WILL penalise you on the car insurance if you had an accident on the bike, even if its a non-fault!

They cant prove you've had the points if its gone from your DVLA record - so why declare it after the 3 years?

I mean - you could get to a point where you are declaring 12/15 points to your insurer lol...

Keep schum - they've got no way of knowing about points 3+ years ago, unless anyone know any better?

If i remember right from my insurance days you have to declare the minor points like speeding for 3 years and they stay on your licence for 4 years stuff like drink driving and dangerous driving is 10 years

Its not correct that they cannot get the info about points once they have come off of your license. If you have an accident there is possibilty there is a paper trail which lists points, either from other quotes, previous insurance or police records.

If you kill a coach load of grannies the insurane company will do everything in its power to do you over.

Insurance companies do my nut, charging twice as much for an import for a start, what a joke, No way am I declaring points that are off my license. My broker wanted to know about accidents that DIDNT result in a claim! not a chance Im telling them about a shunt where I gave the guy a couple of hundred notes to get his car fixed and avoid a claim.

One thing I discovered was that the offence for not telling the fuzz who was driving the car may be a fixed 3 points and a small(ish) fine but its a fooking killer on the insurance premium. Thought I'd avoid the six points or possible ban by admiting it was me doing 80 in a 40 but in hindsight the sp(whatever) would prob have been easier on the insurance than the MS90... arse...

rant over... (on a roll with the ranting tonight!)
