Hiya,

I wanted to get the windows done at some point....am i right in thinking the best way to have it done is actually have it put in the glass?

Does this basically mean you need new glass or what, i knw nothing about this?

Also it true you have to let 70% of the light in to keep it legal..but i spose if u get good quality stuff it will look pretty dark from the outside but still let loads of light in?

Anyone got any ideas on pricing and recommend anyone?

Cheers,

Dan

Nope, tints are are a thin plastic lamintate which as applied to the glass, you do not need new glass.

Generally manufacturerers tints are at their max....you have a grade called AS1 on the front and AS2 on the sides (driver/passenger door) look on your windscreen, reckon there will be a line with an arrow pointing down saying AS1.

This means 80% of light thru windscreen.

Side windows may be marked AS2 where the manufacturers mark is (lower corner) (70%)

If your glass is marked this way then any tint would drop it below that. (even dirt would make the light passing thru less)

There r loads o people who do this but I heard it is being looked at by the vehicle inspectorate to be included in the MOT in the future..

Ah right cheers the info guys....so how much does it cost roughly, anyone got any rough ideas?>

Its far cheaper to buy a litre of "ONEWAY"paint from Halfords. It does exactly what it says on the tin.Its graded, in light refractury terms,by how many coats are applied......Hope this helps

is it spray jobby?

& how hard is it to get off if you over do it?

Cheers.

I always use the film, front widows a pain coz of the curve, hair dryer is needed to heat the film, i took the window out for this coz you need a dust free area to work in, the film is cheep.

You can get the whole car done for about £200.

I would reccomend the following:

Winscreen - no tint

Passenger and Drivers front window - 30% tint

Rear quarters and rear screen - limo tint (i.e. 95%)

Targa panels - 95% tint

I have this set up on my car. With any tints it takes a while to get used to but you can still see fine both during the day and at night.

When you say £200 is that just for the film or that inc taking it somewhere and gettin it done?

Got any close up pics you could send me of yours mate?

Take it the film hasnt started to peel or anything as seen that before and it looks terrible?

It has lasted yes, it's a professional job.

I'll see if the company is still going for you and let you know.

1 to 2 tint in Norwich Specialise in tinting windows, also to add i'm sure the law has changed and it is now illegal do tint the windows before the pillar so in other words no front windscreen which you don't anyway also passenger and drivers windows.

So it may look odd with the rear lot done and to back this point take a look at the next Limo you see all tinted apart from the front.
