Got a strange warning light on the dash, left hand side

I was running at a steady 85-90 when it came on. Just a flicker at first, then full on. Looked like something overheating, so I turned off the AC and slowed to around 65. The light went out.

Got home to look in the hand book, but nothing.

Does anyone know what warning lights are on the left hand side on the Jap cars? It's sort of a box with open ends and three or four wavey lines above. Like something is hot.. Any idears?

Chris..

have seen it before, looks like a couple of pipes with a heatwave over it. The sensor box is under the central consol, behind the handbrake if you want to unplug it :)

Yes, same thing...it is the cat light, not a problem unless it comes on all the time..

try cleaning your ptu/coilpack/injector connectors :)

Yeah, i have the same problem with mine, if I boot it too much the light comes on. I've traced it to a dodgy PTU connector, it requires a good clean. But it IS a problem if it keeps coming on, as your cat is not designed to be overheated like that, hence the warning in the first place. So, and I'm sorry to say this Jock, it is NOT a good idea to dissconnect the plug!!! Because you then wouldn't know when you have a problem....................... Or unless you like to replace your cats ;)

Yes but only J-spec have the warning light. NFI why. The implication is that the cars which don't have the sensors / warning light are doing exactly the same thing but Nissan didn't think it important enough that non-J cars needed a warning.

Mr Adminerator has convinced me that the reason the cats get hot is that unburnt fuel is leaving the engine and getting catalysed in the cats. Because it's not all getting burnt in the cylinders. So one (or more) of the spark plugs aren't firing = maybe coilpack connectors or something like that?

Good point that, didn't know that only the J spec had this.

Checked all my coilpack connectors, they all looked like brand new. Did the cleaning of the PTU, got rid of loads of green scum, but couldn't have done the connectors very well, as it's come back, must have another go.
