Hey Zo thanks for sharing your info, maybe a few of us can follow on from this and get some good times;)

You thought about NOS?

You dont have traction control?

I have no nitrous. I wanted the car to go fast without it.

My traction control system is my right foot. :)

LOL.Lots of guys on here SWEAR by Traction control,I have driven a Z with it fitted and I must say it did ruin the drive of the car.

Also I was told I should fit NOS as the 18G will have too much lag, well looking at your vid they dont look that way to me.

lol, nah mate I'm talking two mingers of rears with no tyres :).

SGT C's are mint mate.

LOL, well there still on my Z so i can do a few donuts, burnouts and a bit of drifting if ya like but i wouldnt want to damage the rims as it might hurt my rear suspension etc..............LMAO

I'll go halves with you on a set

Deal, I get the rears if they uk spec lmao ;)

Yeh all we need mate is to invest in a couple of sets of old tatty ones, they dont need to look good do they!!!

Actually mate, I wonder how much a steel rim would be that size lmfao

I personally dont like traction control either, dont trust anything that tries to drive for me, may sound naive, but IMO its just something else that can go wrong and balls up

18Gs are definately laggier but to me the lag is tolerable for a street car. I can imagine it could be too laggy for some people, especially if you're into road racing. For drag racing lag is usually not much of an issue because you can stay in the powerband under wide open throttle the whole way. You try to go into boost as you're launching and if you do it right there's no lag. I am spinning the motor to 8k rpm to stay in the powerband.

With some nitrous the car will be easier to drive though. Wider powerband makes the car faster.

Really is an eye opener....especially seeing as I am power hungry......

Well, so with slicks then, running 20psi of boost, you should be able to get into the 11's then??

Jees, so you keep the engine in the powerband all the time & effectively use the clutch as a torque converter? bloody hell, these carbon-carbon clutches are great, possibly the best mod you could buy for your zed then if you want ultimate acceleration from rest.

I guess you could slip the clutch from 1st to 2nd, 2nd to 3rd if you wanted too, so long as you don't wheel spin of course.

What is your rev-limiter set to now then? Does it still make good power at 8,000rpm?

Very good info btw zhound.... :)

8k. The torque probably falls off some around 7500rpm but you need to shift higher in lower gears to stay in the powerband.

How cool was that clip?I watched it about four times. Love the ppfffff-tsshhhhh sound.

My old S13 200SX would do about a 14.5 (I think) and that was shagged.

A couple of weeks ago I did a 11.9 on a Yamaha 600 Fazer (that's a ride to work bike you can buy new for under £5K) and that was my first day at Santa Pod on a bike.

And some of the guys in the office had a R33 that did under 8 secs I think. Apparently 1280bhp ish!

The fastest bikes out there (hayabusa, GSX-R1000) do about 10.5 with a skillful and small rider on.

10.8 in a 300ZX is phenomenal. love it! (dunno what my N/A auto 300 would do!!)

If anything zhound you have turned me into a true believer of the zeds potential....:)

Very interesting stuff. I think these American chaps are very informative and have a more technical aproach to the whole issue of extrating the best from our beloved Iron.

I thought wider tyre with less wall. It may be better for driver control and feed back on the windys, but not dragging. We should invite some of these guys over for billing next year. To give a talks.

All the best ideas are nicked.

If you have a look at the slow-mo replays of the top fuel drag cars for instance, you see off the start, their rear rims do almost a 1/8 turn and completely wrinkle the sidewall without the tyre slipping on the tarmac. This is what helps the tyre bite in and achieve grip whereas stiffer sidewall (normal road) tyres will just spin.

Mark I always knew this;)

Seems like most of you guys have stock turbos. You can go into 11s with the right parts and most importantly...driving.

1. Intake

2. Full exhaust (No catalytic converts)

3. Boost controller

4. Upgraded Intercoolers(not absolutely required for drag racing, but good investment)

5. Drag Radials or Slicks

Lower the air pressure down in the tires, put some race gas(100+ octane) in the tank(do not mix it with pump) and turn the boost up to 17-18psi. The only thing holding you back from 11 second passes should be you as a driver. That's all you need to make 11 second passes. You do have to figure out your shift points, but that can come later when you start getting good at launching the car.

If you have an automatic, it can be tough to launch. You need to hold the brakes off the line and build boost while the car is staged. Once you build enough boost that your tires can hold, you let go of the brakes. The stock auto is not really enough for this kind of thing though. You'll probably need a built tranny with an upgrade torque converted with higher stall speed to take advantage of the turbos.

Take a look at Specialtyz.com for the basic mods. They designed a "split flange" downpipe for our cars that improves the spoolup and consequently significantly more torque. They also designed the best flowing exhausts for the Z32. I have the straightest pipes they make on my car:

Good luck to all of you and have fun.

Oh here's a list of the fastest/quickest known Z32s in the states:

Some of you may have seen this site. What I like about this site is, that you can click on the person's name and numbers to see what they have done to their cars. Probably useful info for some of you.

WHOO HOO!! U hear that macca! 11's!!! WHOO HOO!!!

Out of interest Zhound, what type of spark plug are you using at the moment?

Advice from our end on dragging. The smaller dia wheel the better ie 15" and keep the height to either 26 or 28" , M&H do some nice DOT tyres that act like slicks, suspension wise, soft front, medium rear and set up the rear wheels so that when the back squats they are upright, ie normal they are slightly +ve camber. Not sure what 15" rim would fit but there must be at least 1 with the right PCD and width. Can give you a good second off your time!
