I am about to step up and purchase a real car ( too many scoobs)

 

have a budget around 5k mark

 

looking for a twin turbo targa

 

what year would u suggest i go for

 

heard some people say to stay clear of 89 - 91 models

 

but there is one for sale near me for 89 - g plate, twin turbo, 48k miles fsh full racing body kit, leather interior etc - 4k ovno

 

what u think that too expensive ???

I have a 1990 and there is nothing wrong with it.

in late 90 in japan they changes a part of the engine that some people have trouble with, but all the 90's I know have been fine.

Most cars here are 89-91, and most are twin turba targas (non targas are v rare). With these cars I wouldnt worry over the year, pay more attention to service history and the general feel of the car.

 

The similar prices between years 89-93 reflect this. I'd steer clear of most Birmingham/Nottingham selling zeds cheap - search the forum and you will read many tales of expensive woe.

 

Your best bet is to buy from a member on here then you can search their archives and you have assurance it has been cared for :)

 

£5k *should* be enough to grab a good 'un.

My '89/'90 is fine. And good point about Nott/Brum - I got mine from a guy in Derby who buys them all from auction and then pretends to MOT and RAC them. :xxx:

If you go for an 89/90 you should get a lot of change from 5k (more money for mods!!!) I originally set out with a budget of 7k for a really late one but couldn't find one for love or money, so I settled for a 90 auto that had been really looked after.

 

Dont pay more than 3.5k even for a very good example '90 (if its standard with no fancy bits), hammer them down, chances are they are sick of tyre kickers and test pilots and if you turn up with a bundle of notes they will probably just agree as they are glad to see a genuine buyer!! (I know the guy I got mine from was!) I paid 3k for a mechanically very sound 89 with 60k miles and a couple of minor mods. Which I think is a hell of a lot of car for 3k!
