Well the idea was my Z was going to be an everyday car but as I have been completly bitten by the bug in the space of a week and before long my car will have a body kit, funky wheels and a whole lot more boost I dont think its really sensible for turning up at a customers office with, (rumbling exhausts will get nothing but frowns I think, I have already become public enemy no. 1 with all the staff at my boys school, wait till the miserable old cows see the finished article, )

So the shopping list has been narrowed down to either an Alfa 156 2.5l or a 200sx s14, budget is 6k tops, I should get an decent alfa for that but whats the deal with the s14's are they a good everyday driver? I know nothing about them really, If they are as much fun as the old silvia I had when I was a nipper that could be the car for me!!

I had an S14a auto before I upgraded to the 300ZX. They're really nice cars. A little placky inside but well put together and not too slow. Fuel economy is better than the Z but for me at least, not significantly so. I reckon you could definitely get a good FSH S14a with about 60k for your budget. During the 2 years I had it the only problems I had were unfortunate punctures. Mechanically it never let me down. It has loooong doors though, so expect some scrapes along the edges!

One MOT failed the emissions test so I had an expensive (800 notes) zorst replacement. Apart from that, pretty cheap to run.

Pure prejudice (and the JD Power Top Gear customer satisfaction surveys) tells me to steer clear of Alfas!

Good luck,

Russ.

Steer clear of alfas, very unreliable.

14a is a good car, but you can't chip em.

I like my S13 300bhp and over 30mpg, and 400 quid a year classic insurance, pretty hard to top that for a runaround!

Well I dont do sensible(daily driver is my zed! and second car is a stripped out 250bhp 89 silvia!!!) but I would go for the s14 much better and reliable than the alfa and also a hell of a lot cheaper on parts!! -looks better too IMO

I now have 2 Z's because after getting a bit carried awat with the 1st one it was no longer practical, so I had to but a stock everyday driver (Which happens to go like stink)

Was chatting to some sx guys @ the Reading meet tonight,

mentioned this to them, they say the reason is the nissan

security system is linked to the ecu, the security system

can be overridden allowing it to be chipped, but no security!

Go for the 14a mate, you don't need it chipped anyway,

you've got a Z for that! ;)

  another one for the MOD madness :D

I'm selling my red Alfa 156 V6 if you are interested.

It's a fantastic car with the best sounding engine I've ever heard.

2.5L, 6 Speed manual, excellent condition, Black leather, Interior as new, full electrics, aircon, cloverleaf alloys, new battery, disks and pads front and rear last month.

Very quick car, had it up to 155mph on a test track ;)

It's a T reg, going in the trader at £5750 but I'd take £5K.

I'll miss it but now the Z is back on the road I've bought a Saxo diesel as my runabout

I cant get the rest of my mods on to my list it will only allow up to 500 letters ???

I had a long list before from the old forum software but I couldn't edit it because of the maximum limit that's been set.

Decided to get rid and link to another file!

Chris,

Sounds appealing, as I need a runabout ASAP! Can you give me a call on 07768 065781, as I have a few Q's.

Thanks,

Phil.

Will do.

195bhp you know you want it! :D

If it wasn't a good car I wouldn't even think of selling it to anyone here.

I can send a few pics but it's the one you can just see on the drive:

If you want sensible car with cheep power £450 chip turns it to 320 bhp without doing anything else. Spend another £300 on a god induction kit and a little twiddle with the actuator and VROOM nye on 360bhp.

Volvo V, S or C70 T5 and T5R's are 4x4 and start at 250, 270 or 300bhp depending on which model. I've just bought a C70 T5R Coupe all singing and dancing. Had a Estate before with a RICA chip and used to blow scooby doo's into the weeds no problem.

Even this one will wee all over a standard 300zx up to about 60 and give it a run for its money to about 120.
