Anyone have any ideas about my ongoing clicking caliper please?

Front n/s caliper clicks very loudly - a bit like flicking an empty beer tin with your finger nail. It's not too bad when cold but gets loud after a couple miles.

If im stationary and press the pedal all the way down hard, caliper clicks about 15 times from top to bottom of pedal travel, you can feel the clicking in the caliper with your hand on it.

I've taken the pads out and the pistons are very free - push one back in and the opp side comes out easy. They deffo aren't seized.

I cant see any point in changing the piston seals as they move freely.

They dont click when the pads are out , only when there's pressure on the pedal.

I've changed the pads and tried it with the four shims left off and still the same so it isn't those.

Any more ideas?

Cheers,

I've got this and my mate (Who got me into Zeds) a few years ago had the same. He had his all cheacked out somewhere and they said its all ok.

that sounds like you may have an ABS problem. Have you bled the ABS?

I have a clicking kinda noise.

It sounds exactly like the click that you usually get in reverse when your tension bushes are on their way out, however I have the click when going forward and I have rose jointed tension rods, so there are no bushes. I'm going to tighen them up when I get the chance and see if that sorts it.

usually the clicking noise comes from fitting after market pads that don't fit as tight in the housing and allows them to move up and down hence the clicking noise when innitially breaking.

The clicking when you hit the brakes in reverse is usually always the pivot bolts for the tension rods that need tightening.

Trevz - is yours the dreaded "caliper creak"? Type that into the SEARCH and have a little read.

Cheers guys, James yeah it seems i have caliper creak didnt know it was so popular!

Trouble is i've tried all the possible cures, fitted new pads and still does it.

Cheers,

Well mine does it just before I stop so I'm guessing it's also tension rod related.,

The Brakes Were Creaking On The Zed Before I Bought It Off Snurdft, all He Did Was Fit New Pads And Now The Brakes Are Fine.my Noise Was When Stationary And Just Pressing The Pedal-creaked On The Way Down-and On The Way Up.it Could Be You Just Need To Pull The Pads And Copperslip The Pins/pads Etc.
