How much boost can I run with T28's, 555's and big coolers with stock internals?

Am I right in thinking that these turbos will be pushing far more air through for the same pressure so the usual maximum of about 16psi would actually be too much?

If so, how do I gauge how much is too much for my engine?

Chris.

it this gonna make much difference?? surely the amount of max boost you can run is going to be limited by the compressor housing/wheel, not what bearing you have. ok its gonna help with spool up, but would it make that much difference to boost?

After talking the head honcho at Turbo developments, he said that 270 thrust bearing can run 15ish max,360 18ish max and BB can just run as high as you can. This is talking about the limits of the turbo for longevity, not the engine's limits or the amount of psi the turbo can develop!

555's fit straight in speedy

Mark BB turbos will NOT take high boost levels ask Nico the Z guru:D;)

Well I suppose it all depends what you mean by high!

I think the guy was saying, your engine will start detting before you reach the limits of your turbos with BB!

Turbo Dinamics Roller bearing turbo, high flow 60 trim compressor wheel, CNC re-Profiled compressor housing, T25 left hand thread turbine wheel assembly, staggered gap / total seal turbine end piston ring fitted, 0.64 A/R turbine housing, up rated actuator.

Thats what me got, all be it sat on the floor of the garage at the mo. I will also be having Dump Turbo Headers, larger Braided oil feeds etc..

Rossy - please note that unless TD have changed again they supply the stage 2-3 with standard actuators - if you want the uprated 14psi ones you have to ask specially.

I would have thought each turbo's A/R map would be more of a limit than the bearings!

Nicocrocopig said the bearings are so small they  self distruct when you run serious boost through them.

To be truthful all of my knowledge around turbos comes second hand and it would be nice for an "expert", to clarify all of these areas!!

To me it all seems to be a black art!!

Maybe we should get someone to write up a way to decipher these things, like a/r

ratios, compressor and turbine wheel sizes, charts!

LOL!! i think some of it is down to black art!! :D

trouble is, sometimes what looks good on paper wont perform in the real world. its down to people that actually buy the turbos, fit other aftermarket parts & test them to find out what works best.

the proof of the pudding is in the eating - and all that :D

we need to build up a big database of dynos - it's the only way to compare them. just like bernie did at ooparts

we should be able to get a comparrison for

stock

TD stge 1

TD stage 2-3

PE1420

SE T28

SE t5/28 hybrid

greddy TD05-16G 6cm

greddy TD05-18G 8cm

just off the top of my head - what other turbos are we running in the UK? anyone running JWT's or HKS 2530

that would give us a nice cross section

p.s. we could get PeterR to give a masterclass at billing :D there isnt much he doesnt know.

Are we allowed to put our hands up and ask teacher questions? :slap:
