It's back from C&S at last!

It's had an engine swap, Fidanza flywheel, RPS clutch, and pretend SUS induction. The engine was bought unseen and turned out to have Stage II TurboTechnics :hyper:, which is good and bad, see below - engine in a high state of tune has gone into a chassis in a lesser state of tune (stock exhaust) - plus auto engine on manual drivetrain - plus no boost controller. :x:

Clutch action is HEAVY - but I quite like that. Adjustment was almost on the floor when Phil test drove it so he's adjusted it upwards now - but I think he may have over-egged the pudding because it now slips somewhere around peak torque. I have to say the bite point is pretty near the top, so hopefully if I drop it to 2/3 of the way down that will sort slipping. It's alright pulling away etc.

I think the slip is mostly because the torque arrives in a mega-rush at around 4k... if I'm careful with my right foot until after that point, the clutch holds until gear change. I'm very hopeful that diddling the adjustment in the footwell will suss it... believe this is easy but awkward.

Everything needs bleeding again, and probably will do for some while ...

Coolant I can cope with - heard gurgling when I undid the rad cap this morning and the negative pressure was released, so I think there's a fair bit of air still in there.

It's a monster on boost, but my God it's laggy!

The drive back and a quick play last night have also confirmed it's far too heavy for my tastes these days...

Questions:

Where are the bleed points for the brakes and the clutch, and will I need to borrow a ramp?

Which is better to fix the lag - boost controller or exhaust? ("Both" not acceptable answer - this car is costing me far too much for what it is IMHO)

And does anyone want to give me 10 grand for it? :D

upi may want to thing about manifolds, this is the most efficent way of reducing the majority of the lag, but with those tubs you should be looking at Zorst as the first stage then change the rest as time goes on.

manifold means engine out though, and there are no decent manifold setups.

Boost controllers will help the lag but not by much I dont think.

exhaust will help as that's a big restriction at the mo, de-catting will also help. You can then move on to down pipes, and if you're desperate/feeling flush :) the manifolds. You can port the stock ones, but you're best off going to either Pentroof ones or The new Inconel ones from Greg Dupree (stocked by Smithy).

Manifolds are an engine out job, down pipes are gearbox off jobs (I think)

Clutch bleed points- is there one on the slave cylinder underneath, and one on the left side of the engine too?

I could just swap the bugger for an NA. :D

Right, expect a "wanted" post for exhaust come payday then

I'm after quiet but effective, any thoughts?

Duffer, I wouldn't mind a second opinion on the car generally at some point - how's yer diary?

Took the car to Settle this weekend...

...my god that SUS copy is LOUD. I've heard dump valves make less noise than me recircs do now. It's definitely a lot better at the bottom of range too. I'd recommend them to anyone!

Clutch behaved itself pretty much - probably because it didn't get heated up in traffic at any point. I'll bleed it and put racing fluid in tomorrow night and then hopefully sorted.
