Got to be honest - I know that the general theory of steam cleaning is that the steam/water evaporates and leaves nothing behind, but you are still going to get moisture. And after spending some time on John's(Black300ZX) ZX at the weekend, I gotta tell you, do yourself a favour and stick to the manual labour.

Just imagine, at the top of the engine, this is what you have to watch out for:

6 coil pack connectors

6 injector conectors

2 ptu connectors

CAS connector

det sensor connector

2 water temp sensors

...and that's off the top of my head. I'm sure the techy boys could double that list.

This is exactly the reason that when I open my valeting business, steam cleaning will be a big NO NO and I will be offering a "Detailing service" only, where only water based products will be used or carb cleaner on metal parts. Far safer!

In my Belmont days, I once jet washed the engin, trying to keep away for the plugs and HT leads. The first thing taht happened was that the car conked out on my whilst I was washing it, then it tool me ages to get it started, and then it ran like a dog for about 10 miles.

Nevertheless, good luck with whatever you decide to do.

hey Cos, in the belmont days the only thing to worry about was getting the distibutor cap dried out after steam cleaning or the coil leads if they were knackered they would lite up like a xmas tree lol

toothbrush for sure ....

I can't remember how many hours it took me to clean my engine and bay but it was fookin hard work.

I certainly wouldn't let a chimp with a steam cleaner near it.

Not the whitewash you thought Iain :mac1:

See we only have 1 :xxx:
would not be so bad if you actually did a fair poll and did not change the results to suit your self Iain :slap: :nono:

Very true mate - although, the HT leads sat at the front of the engine bay and so were in direct access to any spray. Head gasket went shortly after the jet wash episode. Only took my 4 and a half hours to replace. Was well chuffed with myself as it was my first.

NO! It'll probably never work again!

WTF you on about :xxx:  You can't change a public poll you can see who voted for what Dumbo LOL

I guess it's touch and go whether you would do any damage to the 14 year old engine, but I wouldn't want to take the risk so I'd have to say no for sure.
