As some of you know I had my first shot at a drag strip on Sunday.

Queuing up to go on I felt fine, about 5 cars from the front I started to get a little nervous as I was next to an AC Cobra (which may I add sounded the nuts).

2 cars to go the adrenaline was building up.. I could feel it in my chest and my arms.

Now it's my turn, I entered the burnout strip and dumped the clutch at 5krpm and spun the tyres up to the start line.

My legs are now going through a "Shakin Stevens" session.

I'm at the line the white lights tell me I'm good to go.

3,500rpm clutch at biting point….

Handbrake on with button depressed for release…

Next thing I know is the green light is on and all my thoughts about gently easing the clutch went out of the window.

I dump the clutch and hit the gas pedal to the floor !!

1st gear to 7kprm….

2nd gear a little more….

Hearts now going like the clappers

3rd gear approaching red line… fook it only a little further…. Keep it in there….

Passed the line doing 117mph in 3rd gear (manual) !!!!!

Brake Brake Brake…

I'm breathing like a hamster on heat !!!

Fook me what a rush.

Joined the queue again straight away, opened the bonnet for extra ventilation and a few oil and water checks…

Repeat again…

And again…

And again…

And again… LMAO

Is this $hit addictive or what !!!!

Has anyone actually done the 1/4, won their race and not wanted to do it again ?

sounds like a good way to screw your engine/tyres/brakes ?

I had heard that you were addicted to drag, but thought it was just a rumour!!! :D

Trust you:D

Stu - sounds excellent, not had a go yet myself but I can imagine the buzz. I love the description!

So what sort of time did you make?

So what sort of time did you make?

1/4 13.53 @ 117mph - 357.2 RWHP - 392.4 lb/ft Torque

Are you ****in blind???? :D:D:D

:nelson: :slap: :x:

mate your terminal speed sounds a little out compared to your ET?

I ran a 13.4 @ 106, and little shrimp did a 13.4 at 107........

to get a trap speed of 117mph in a zed you'd need to be pushing close to 500bhp, in which case I'd be upset at only doing a 13.5......

By the way where was this? I didnt see you at the pod on Sunday.

It is possible - if you average 296 HP at the rear wheels, in excess of the wind resistance, for 13 seconds you will have travelled 1/4 mile and reached a speed of 138 mph, (ignoring relativistic and other effects).

Was at the Redline rumble at the pod Sunday, unfortunately my Zed didn't make it in time so had to get a lift  Watched my Cossie owning mate run and he said exactly the same thing - what a rush!

We are going down again in a couple of months as I have to show him who's boss. He ran a 14.3 in a claimed 350bhp 4x4, though it was very hot and probably not a good day for turbo's.

Saw a 987bhp supra do 9.987@144mph and a few low 11 sec skylines.

Drag runs are good, but cant beat a track day....

and Alex, check ya mail, sent you one about the engine this morning, im in DIRE need of a lump now.

lol, but you dont average that horsepower do you - thats your peak figure... ;)

What I know about physics you could write on the back of a very small postage stamp BUT I know theres no way a 350bhp zed has a terminal speed of 117mph - especially not at 13.5 - not without a 60' time of about 5 seconds as you donut off the line.... :p

lol that Supra on Sunday was amazing, fair do's

did the rx 7 eventually get any good times - I had to leave at half 3 so I never saw the final "god of the pod" bit...

I can imagine that drag racing is adictive, but doesn't it get hot with all that make up on

No it sounds good fun but I love race tracks with bends and people to overtake and the sensation of being on the edge. You know when it all comes together and your driving in the sweet spot and it feels like man and machine in symbiance, it's the most fantastic feeling in the world. You also really know how to appreciate what youe car can do. Its better that sex (only because I don't get to do it as often as I sex)

Only done 3 runs in then Z and it was very poorly, I am looking forward to getting it sorted and setup and the santa pod here we come.

I've done loads of runs on bikes, I wouldnt say its addictive, its just a hell of a lot of fun.

LOL, Why is it that whenever I post something up about my RWBHP, torque or track time someone has to say that's can’t be right !!!.

When I ran 13.53 with a terminal of 117mph I had a lot of wheel spin at the start, I ran this with about 15.5 psi.

I also ran a 13.6 with a terminal of 104mph with no slip but @13.5 psi.

I got the slips, I have the graphs, I know what they say, I had fun doing it and that's all that matters

Forgot to answer your question Adam, North weald (Essex)

hi mate can you post up the intermediate times from your 117 mph run?

Drag strips are the Ultimate traffic light GP! LOL! I've never done one with my Z's but I've done a fair few on bikes. Fantastic fun!!

I usually go to "The Bulldog Bash" which is a 4 day long-weekend biker bash at Avon Park (or whatever the fack it's called now) They've got all the usual beer/bands/fun-fair etc. but with the added bonus of 4 days of "run wot yer brung", with displays of top-fuel cars and bikes, and even a couple of jet-cars most years!

Great fun!! :hyper: :hyper:
