Round stuarts yesterday we (well he ;)) tried to solve my smoking problem, on idle after exactly 2.5 minutes I was getting a constant haze of blue smoke out of passenger side exhaust. This pointed to a problem with the driver side of the engine so first port of call was the pcv valves, the valves had been replaced 12 months ago and on inspection were fine, however two problems were

 

1) pcv valve was looseish,

2) lots of oil built up in the pcv valve hose

 

Stu cleaned up the pcv hose and then reinstalled it. Today no smoke whatsoever on idle, even after a spirited drive and left to idle for 5 minutes.

 

I've spoken to a few people and the general consensus is that because my engine was overfilled with oil it is possible that this has somehow found its way into that tube over the last 6 months. fingers crossed all is well now :)

 

 

id say its well worth servicing your car yourself if you know what you are doing or know someone who can help you out if its your first time, it gives you peace of mind to know that everything is running well, oil was clean and so was coolant, turbos seemed good as well, although it looks like i have auto turbos on a manual car, probably when the engine was rebuilt in 1997.

 

 

we also diagnosed a water pump leak so this weekend I'm stripping that out :eek:

ask stuart, he has the magic wand lol, I think he's out waving it over his turbos at the moment :D

LOL, Unfortunately 3/4 times it is the tubs :(. and in my case it PCV valves didn't help.

Is there a how to on this. Might be hope for the old girl yet. Only smokes between 2 and 30 mins of running tho'? Stuart have u got a link to the position of this?

After stipping out most of the vacuum pipes and sensors on the side of the plenum lol
