Thanks Sideshowbob for putting me in touch with Brad in Wantage, he's a top bloke.

So refreshing to finally get someone who knows what they are talking about to take a look at my poorly Zed.

I currently have two mechanics on my hit list- the 1st stung me for £450 for fixing a poxy water hose and the 2nd told me that my air-con unit was causing the birdy squeak so purchased a 2nd hand unit for £80.

Luckily Brad took a look today and informed me that my alternater belt was shredded and was causing the birdy squeak and would be lucky if it lasted a few more miles- that would have been a great breakdown on the M4 eh!

Now this has been done, the Zed is quiet apart from the roar, but still hearing the squeak in my subconscious after all these weeks. Anyone wanna buy this air-con unit that I now have spare?? Open to offers...

Brad spotted a prop shaft bush that has colapsed and that would indicate why I get vibration over 50mph. Anyone know best place to source this part?

Also looking to do the big service in next couple of weeks, so will be looking for cambelt, plugs filters etc. No history with this import car so best to do everything eh- any ideas on top priority things to advise/do would be most appreciated?

Cheers!

AL

Whats the best way to display an image in a thread- sorry, new to all this.

Every time I try to upload and attachment it freezes my machine. Does this on my xp and 2000 pc. Firewall too tight? Any ideas.

No problem mate, glad to be of help!

Try Courtesy nissan in usa for propshaft bush,

cheaper than uk dealers....even with shipping!

They can also do the service pack for you.

But your probably better off going to a uk dealer

for plugs/filters etc.

Brads a top guy, does a proper job for ''reasonable'' money!

i wondered what the hell that little squeking noise was in my car! you don't always hear it (only i hear it all the time)! thought it was a bearing at first but it sounds a lot like the aforementioned problem of belt/air conditioner....

Try waggling the front bumper around, see if it squeaks,

mine does & i haven't a clue how to fix it!

It's actually under the bumper, around the intercooler vents

where it squeaks.

Just a thought! ;)

I had a naggin squeek on mine, turned out ta be the (wife) bonnet catch, try a little lube

Its the easiest n cheapest thing ta try first!

Hopefully my wife wont turn into a nagging squeak- afterall she did buy me the Zed as a present. However, with every bill, she is slowly getting the daggers out. Perhaps I can find someone who will charge the credit card bills to show up as Tesco shopping or Mothercare world kids clothes to disguise it all.

Thanks for the advice. How did the meet go today? I did want to pop over today to meet ya all, but after doing Reading/Wantage twice yesterday, I've fallen behind with all me chores and now Zed is working nice, I thought it deserved its first wash and vac. No doubt I'll bump into you all soon.

Hi BigAl,

Jesus!!!! What happened to your wheel????

And more importantly, I have a set of UK spec standard alloys that are in a LOT better condition that you can have for £150 if you want.

I'm nice and local to you too!!! Let me know if you're interested!!

yea, they are a bit scabby- thats to suit the rest of the car

low on dosh at the mo and have mechanics bill ahead and just spent out on a fair bit of kit. Any good tyres on them wheels? as my two front are worn. I guess if they have got a couple of tyres with a bit of meat, I might buy em as it will offset my forthcomming tyre costs. Time to get the visa card out soon. Ive been resisting so far, but just ended up with a large overdraft instead

The fronts are Michelin Pilot's which are excellent with quite a bit of tread left. I'll measure how much tonight and let you know.

The rear's are Fulda's which aren't as good as the Michelin's but are OK.

I may be a bit flexible on the price, as they are cluttering up my shed.

ok, I take it the price is for wheels with tyres together- if it is I'll take em

once I got them fitted I need em 4 wheel alligned as the car is all over the road at the moment. Anyone know of good place to get that done in either Reading or Slough/Maidenhead area?

It is for wheels and tyres yes!! When do you want to meet up? I can bring them to Reading or you can collect. I'm in Basingstoke.

Not too sure about the Reading area, but there is a good place in Basingstoke that does 4 wheel laser allinging. (I think it's £65 but not too sure)

Not wanting to mess you about, but have just check me bank and my OD is maxed out and still have my Courtesy nissan bill to come out. Things may be better in a week or two.

I still want the wheels so if you like, I can send you a cheque from my lovely new credit card account and you can wait for it to clear and then I'll pick em up. PM me with your address if you want to go down that route.

Having a Zed makes debt so worthwhile!

p.s. you said you would take a reasonable offer- hows £120 sound?

£120 sounds OK, as you are nice and close by, so no messing about driving miles!!!

Tell you what, hows about we meet up you give me cheque and I give you wheels and I'll trust you that it won't bounce!! That way, you'll have less knackered wheels for Japfest!!

  • Author

Thats brilliant- you're a top bloke. Dont worry about the cheque- you know all Zed owners are trustfull honorable beer monsters!

I reckon I am on fast track for divorce buying these as she had to pay the import duty on my goodies this morning- I reckon shes gonna :slap: me.

I'll PM you with my address and if by a miracle I get the cash, I'll phone you before Sat and pick em up so to stop er-in-doors worrying.

Cheers
