September 25, 200124 yr Can Too much back pressure kill my turbos? Cuz I just relized that I went from Free FLowing to, 2 chambered flow masters? Just a thought, Anybody know of anybody else that has Flowmaster 40 ser mufflers?
September 25, 200124 yr On a turbocharged car you want as little backpressure as possible as that it hinders the turbos spool up.
September 25, 200124 yr I don't know if you know but I posted not to long ago, with turbo problems (them not spooling) And I was wondering if that could be the cause. Segestion,? Should I pull off the third peice of exhaust and see if turbos spool or could they be damaged enought, that I have to replace turbos? [This message has been edited by Droop (edited 25-09-2001).]
September 25, 200124 yr People don't like to loose the backpressure sometimes when the turbo seal my be leaking or about to leak... it will make it worse. Personally, the less the better, for me!
September 25, 200124 yr Droop check out my post from Saturday "exhaust shock" my experience of muffled sound and slow turbo spool up was two blocked middle silencers having removed them for straight inserts the car flies and turbo boost is increased + sounds nicer. Jeff TT
September 25, 200124 yr One cause of the inefficiency comes from the fact that the power to spin the turbine is not free. Having a turbine in the exhaust flow increases the restriction in the exhaust. This means that on the exhaust stroke, the engine has to push against a higher back-pressure. This effectively subtracts a little bit of power from the cylinders that are firing at the same time. Now thats my two cents.
