hey- sounds like similar hose that went on mine. See thread above 'z mechanic needed.

Me a z newbie and cant offer any advice, but it set me back £450 and was off the road 5 weeks. I know I got stiched up so would like to hear how long and how much it takes you to fix.

Cheers

AL

if its a water hose at the back of the engine it sounds like it could be your heater matrix hoses, two of them at the back of the engine.

I have a similar problem at the back right of the engine. Drips onto hot metal and steams up a treat but doesn't seem to do it unless I have driven her hard. Let me know how much it cost you to sort out as mine is too intermittent for me to worry yet! Plus I might be selling her this week :-(

Hugh's right - sounds like the matrix hoses, as there's nothing else really round there. You'll need to unhook the wiring loom above it if you've got big hands and you'll need a long handled philips screwdriver to get to the jubilee clips. You'll probably need to replace the old perished ones, and it's a total b*stard to get to unless your hands are small enough to get down there. I used my girlfriend to do the job in 10 minutes after I had spent two days swearing at it! Oh, you'll also need new smaller jubilee clips as the original ones won't tighten properly on the new hoses for some reason  The new hoses will cost around £40 from Nissan or SE.

Good luck mate

Ah! how I know why i had so much trouble! I should have just removed the engine! :D

The two matrix hoses shown are easy to replace but are a PITA to do!

They are also easy to check if they are at fault.

You do not need a mechanic to do those! There £15 each approx.

There are smaller hoses at the back of the engine that run down to the turbos and other parts. One of these split on me and used to cause steam from under the bonnet down the battery side.

That hose could only be got to from underneath the car!

Good luck

picked the hoses up from the nissan dealer

just for a laugh i asked how much to fit them

he said "is it a single turbo or a twin?" LOL

then he went to look at the figures

came back and said £250+VAT+anti-freeze mate!

what a joke

Now you know why 99% of us stay away from Nissan main dealers :xxx:

I done both of mine in 30 mins max

Same here - 30 mins - just use Jubilee clips instead of the Nissan clips, you only lose a couple of cup fulls of water anyhow!

I found it easier to cut the old pipes off rather than struggle to get them off intact.

If its close to the battery then its the turbo coolant hoses :( Matrix hoses are more to the drivers side of central at the back of the engine...

I used my girlfriend to do the job in 10 minutes after I had spent two days swearing at it!

Yeah that always does the trick for me too! :D  :x:

here is where the steam is hissing from

Erm, turbo coolant feed :( Want me to take a pic of the back of the engine so you can see where it is excatly? To be honest I think you've actually been quite lucky - thats one of the easiest hoses to replace ;) Do the matrix hoses too anyway if you have them ;)

its only small but the hose above is a pig to get off

going to have to cut it off

You should be able to work around that hose. If its the one I'm thinking of, then its part of the PCV system. Don't cut it, I'll get a photo so you know what you're aiming for ;)

got the small one off looks like 8mm bore about 4"long with a 90deg bend at the end

just picked up a replacement hose for the back of the balance bar

still trying to get a piece of hose on the bit underneath

LOL! I think this is where I've just picked a leak up - I'm having Phil at C&S Wood have a look at it so if youre still no furehter along I'll get the details off him as to what he did....
