Up North

Had a trip up to Bolton on the weekend. Can I just say 2 things to you Northerners.

 

1) Get out of the middle lane.

    Maybe I was just unlucky, but about north of the M50 junction on the M5, people were REALLY crap.

    Miles of inside lane, just not used!

    Pull out without signalling, pulling in 2 feet in front of you after overtaking (I was in the Rover so I'm allowed to be overtaken).

    Nahh, you could tell by the Pork Pies on the back shelf and Whippit in the passenger seat that they were northerners.

    I drive all around the country... and I have to say, lane discipline is particularly poor in North Manc generally, and especially the bottom of the M61 and the A666. Mind you, there's never more than 500 yards without a lane leaving or joining, so it's hardly surprising no-one moves left.

     

    The sensible way home for me is M602 / M60 / M61 / A666 but it's so frustrating I only use it about 1 time out of 5, and take a long but more interesting route the rest of the time, even in the daily driver...

     

    ...though it's great fun coming in - get through the congested bit and hoon it out of the M602 slip road at something slightly over 69mph ;)
