I got my car back a couple of days ago after having a cam belt change. After a couple of days driving locally the car was running well so I took it out for a drive. It didn't miss a beat all day...no misfiring, idle was constant & no noises (apart from one of the belts squeals when the engine first starts). About 50 miles from home I started the car and sat waiting for a minute. The engine just cut out. There were no warnings or other symptoms. Tried to start it another couple times but nothing...just turns over and doesn't attempt to fire. There was a strong smell of fuel when we first opened the bonnet (but I had tried to start it a couple of times which may explain that). Anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to the problem? From the way that it stopped I am assuming that something has come unplugged after the recent work...is this a correct assumption?

could be almost anything, but id start with checking out the connectors to the PTU

Hi Dave R....the same thing happened 2 me 2 day....did 120 miles to conway and back...max speed around 120....got back 2 my mates house, car was running fine....then when i came to leave about and hour later it would'nt start and there was a strong smell of fuel......any way i thought bol**ks 2 this...so i called the man at the AA.....he came out check that there was a spark at the plugs etc, then decided that there may be a fuel leak.....so he then removed a pipe frome the outlet side of the fuel filter.....got some fuel coming through, reconnected the pipe and the F**ker started 1st attempt....I asked him what he thought it was and he seemed to think that there aws some sort of pressure build up in the tank....this may work let me know what happens

Yes, I had exactly that, plus a variety of other warm starting problems - smithy's fuel kit and a new fuel filter, plus PVR bypass, has sussed it.
