1 - a 4WD system saps more power

this is far outweighed by the extra grip thats achieved over the 1/4 mile

2 - under hard acceleration weight is transferred to the rear of the vehicle (which is where our power goes down )

let me think power though two wheels or four on the 1/4?? emm ill take four :)

how many 4WD top fuel drag cars do you see??

your Zed would look so cool with the size of tyres that they need on top fuel dragsters to get traction :D

yeah but thats even more outweighed by all the lard it carries!!

& i still dont think it is that much of a benefit anyway in non slippery conditions :p (& pete beat the 4wd Mitsi anyway! :D )

try racing a gixer thou over a 1/4 mile. thats only got one wheel (ps pete still won remember :xxx: )

yes, but my point was - if 4wd was that much of a benefit, then they would have 4wd wouldnt they  (oh, did i mention petes zed beat the fantastic 4wd GTO  )

You obviously haven't been to santapod then, as that is exactly what it is "slippery"..... so going on your theory then, if you had two skylines, one GTST (2 wheel drive) and a GTR (4 wheel drive) both tuned to 400 BHP, the GTST would win at "santapod".......yeah right whatever  :D

Taking nothing away from Pete's victory but thats just "one" GTO.....there were other GTOs there on the day that equalled Pete's times and one beat it, so IMO it was all down to luck of the draw.

Pete, nice car by the way.. on one of the vids of your car, the speedo looks as if it goes off the clock, is your speedo still in kilometers ???

The skyline gtr has is a proper 4wd car that actually uses the 4wd to good effect. The GTO 4wd is totally rubish in comparison to the skyline it's not a good comparison. If you put a 400bhp gtr against a 4wd GTO you really think the GTO woud win? Yeah right.

No the Skyline is not what I would call a proper 4WD car. Its far from it. The Skyline is actually a rear wheel drive car but the power is automatically transfered from the rear wheels to the front as the rears lose traction. Here you get the best of both worlds, as you get the power of acceleraton as a RWD with the traction of a 4WD.

On a drag strip 4WD cars get in front for the first few yards where it will shoot infront because its superior traction, but then relise on that to stay in front if it was against a RWD of the same power.

I have had 1 experience at Santa Pod and it plays into 4WD cars hands. My Z had basic mods running at 13psi and I was wheel spinning in 2nd gear. I am not going to gloat that my Z was so powerful it wheel spun in 2nd, it was just so slippy.

Cheers Martyn  I'd love to be able to hit 180mph withine 1/4mile but unfortunately yep, its in kms hehe ;)

Ow Pete, you burst the bubble there mate!

Homebrew, i didn't mension anything about a GTO if you re-read my post  my comparison was between a GTST "SKYLINE" and a GTR "SKYLINE".....one being two wheel drive and the other all four will be used as you say, "when necessary" but i was mearly trying to point out that at santapod 4x4 has a definite advantage. :) I also appreciate that a two wheel drive should gain on a for wheel drive once it gets traction, (because of less drivetrain losses)..... but not sufficiently over a 1/4 mile IMO.

cheers Martyn

ok,ok. so the big question is:

how do you explain that the GTO lost then??? :slap:

how do you explain that the GTO lost then???

1. This did "Not" take place at santapod

2. I think Pete was running more power in his Z than the GTO

3.Traction was not a problem as it was on a very rough surface, RAF Woodbridge, (an airfield) " NOT SANTAPOD!!"

oh and 4. maybe the driver's had some influence...

LMAO!! so now youre agreeing with me then eh?? like i said

its my theory that in good conditions RWD is best, 4WD is only really a benifit in wet/slippery conditions

from what i saw on the sig of the guy pete beat, he has fairly similar mods BTW.

 :xxx: :slap:

why is this being angled to take place somewhere where the GTO's will have a distinct advantage on launch? would seem fairer to have somewhere where traction is not an issue,

i don't suppose it will matter though, I say stick a bottle of slick50 under the zeds wheels and it will still beat them :)

That's because they are scared Mike:D It is their only hope of trying to cross that line, however watching the vid I say you could beat one with a Saxo:D;)

Whatever Paul C, "The Cheeky Wind up Scampster" ;)

We shall see maybe !! i say maybe because i go to quite a few events throughout the year and there always seem to be a distinct lac of zeds "WHY IS THAT" is it that you wouldn't want little bro as in the 200 sx kicking your buts  :D

ie TOTB. wheres your team for that ??... this would be the perfect event to see how our cars compare on handling aswell as 1/4 mile and top speed

Whatever Paul C, "The Cheeky Wind up Scampster" ;)

Personnally I don't get any satisfaction at hurtling my zed up to 100mph in a straight line and having to stop after 1/4 of a mile, my car is purely for road use. Although ill be hurtling around brands hatch in a single seater in a few months :D

REFERING BACK A LITTLE...

I think you guys are missing the point a little. The challenge is to see who has the better cars. Part of the GTO's trait is that its a 4wd, its not a cheat its part of why the owners love their Models the same as reasons why you love your Zeds. So swallow the fact that the GTO handles or grips as it does and concerntrate on where your car excells and push the ol' accelleration!!!

HAVE FUN DOIN IT TOO!

no, the point is, for a fair event to take place then it should not play to one cars particular strengths,

Whatever Paul C, "The Cheeky Wind up Scampster" ;)

Oh, good come back!!
