I see alloys for sale in car mags, new with new Z-rater tyres, under £1000 for four.

Why, then do people rush to spend that or more on used ones with worn tyres etc? (on here or ebay or other places)

Is it just looks? It is becasue Z-wheels are fractionally wider? Are some rubbish and dent easily?

I think you generally get what you pay for, but expensive wheels are often forged, lightweight mothers which can get damaged rather easily, so beware if you're buying second hand, some of them are very hard or expensive to fix or refurbish!

(trust me I know - I have a set of loverly Volks racing forged alloys in my cellar waiting for a lottery win to be re-fitted and polished!)

Also bear in mind that many wheels available in magazines won't go near a Z. You'll have a hard time finding rims with the correct offset in order to clear the front brake calipers.
