Z goes in for the dent/respray back quarter tomorrow-

I hope it turns out OK. I looked round and thought XL in coventry SEEMED very professional. PLEASE someone tell me they are good.

It has to have the dent reshaped and the quarter panel sprayed, and the bumper repainted. Will it look OK when it comes back to me? The guy assured me it will look as good as when it was undamaged. What do they actually do to strip the old paint back? or do they just spray after priming it or something? On the estimate it said 'prepare and paint'.

Do I have to be careful with the paintwork for a while after (like no pressure washer, or even washing it)?

Erm well If my memory serves me correctly, then I would say, pull the dent, panel beat and skim with filler, sand prime and paint.

you forgot wet and dry.

You all forgot, final polish and Valet the car.........If there a good garage....

you forgot to pay him:D;)

you forgot to pay him:D;)

Whats that all about, pay them??????.........LOL

Oh and Rich, it'll be best if you don't polish the newly painted area for about 2/3 weeks, but the garage should advise you on that anyway.

Good luck.

Rich :)

Chunk why do you say it should'nt be polished for 2/3 weeks?????

And the biggest problem for them will be matching the colour perfectly!

and I know a certain body shop that does that to a treat ;) eh leonardo ? :D

HHMMPHH you been takin your car somewhere else :nono: :slap: :p

Sorry mate, i was thinking of Bike paintwork, as in plastics.........D'uh

Rich

Still should'nt make any difference, paint is paint no matter whats underneath.

It's always been my advice to put on as many coats of wax on the cars as you can in the first few weeks, as this gives it good protestion.

After all, the new paint will have been machine polished before leaving the body shop, so waxing with a soft cloth won't do any harm.

Just my personal opinion, other painters may do it differently.

Its the prototype for my new Z kit

That is Cerina's

my car when some twat hit me, and aftre it was repaired.

it would have gone to PPS, but distance was to far for me with the sort of dedication i have to give to my job

No Mate, if it's done propely they should only blow in the colour around the area that has been repaired. This is done so the paint can be flicked out from the repaired area to lose any slight colour difference( if there is one), but the original colour is left round the edges of the panel so whan it is laquered you will not be able to tell the difference.

You're right!!!!!!!!!! I can't tell the difference. I got the car back and it's great. Fantastic job. The only thing is, I'm still confused- should I give it a clean and polish today?

Woo Hoo, bet it's good to have it back Rich.

Glad your pleased with the work, as Peter says in an earlier post you are OK to polish it, when i said not to, i was thinking about bikes and some of the paints used on them, but i'm proberbly wrong, as always

Will you be at the Midlands meet?

Rich :D

Go for it Rich, a couple of coats of Meguires or Autoglym will protect the new paint.

Cheers.

They said it would take a week, then phoned me up the next day and said they'd done it. It looks good to me, and nice to see it back in it's good condition. Weather was lovely at half seven when I got up- now it's pissing it so I'll have to wait to give it a wax.

Thanks for the advice. I asked the guy how it was done and he basically said the above so cheers for that.

I will hopefully get to the midlands meet. I am still thinking about a TT but I am gradually coming to the realisation that mine would have to go. I'm still supposed to be looking for a 'sensible' car but I want to get to the meet to ask a few questions and see a few TTs again.
