as a condition of my insuranc i have to have a tracking device fitted for them to insure against theft, but they are bloody expensive n i might never even have to use it! at th moment i have just a cat2 immobiliser fitted.

1st q: can th car be stolen without it being... un-immobilised?

2nd q: if not should i just invest that money in a v good alarm + immobiliser?

A lot of places ask for a tracker on Imports. If the insurance company has asked for one, you dont get one and then it gets stolen, you wont be insured.

An immobiliser can be by passed. It takes time to do. The problem is you dont have an alarm so the person will have longer to work on it.

You should get a good immobiliser and alarm, but if the insurance company want a tracker you better get one.

You say you may never use it, and I hope you never need to. But if you alarm it and it goes missing its gone and there is less than a 50% chance of getting it back. If it has a tracker, the police can find where it is and follow it.

the thing is i definatley want to have both fitted but cant afford it at th moment, also when my insurance renewal finally comes up its very likely that il change insurers so hopefully wont need th tracker anymore.

th tracker will cost me 250 plus 109 subscription for a yr

i can get a AI606 for 280!

vijay have you got one of those? how does th system work- will police find th car? do u have to track th car yourself? is it an 2in1 alarm and tracker?

If you get a tracker you should be able to move it to your next car. Bummer about the subscription though.

That tracker you should be able to move, but other ones you wont be able to.

Are those trackers on the site, insurance approved? Can the police use them or is it for your own use?

they could just cut your handbrake cable and tow it away, imobilser not much good againt that!

I always get my mechanic to fit a seperate immobiliser switch hidden in the cockpit,

only costs a tenner .

Ya5een, didnt they want to see proof of a tracker fitted when they insured you?

If you're paying by instalments you could just cancel the policy and insure with someone else.

When i was ringing around, all insurance companies wanted me to have a tracker on the import versions, but only cat 2 on UK versions... can anyone explain that?

there is no explanation - Insurance companies have their own rules that they make up!!

Better off buying a wheel clamp.

1st q: can th car be stolen without it being... un-immobilised?

Someone will just winch it into the back of a trailer and drive off with it. Remove the immobiliser at their own leisure in a lockup somewhere.

Tracker is Def the way to go.
