Right I think we have got to the bottom of the majority of this.

I persoanlly believe the figures that are quoted by 300zxclub.com.

I can understand why a loot of people are scepticle but I think it all comes down to this...

Race Fuel (108 - 110 Octance). Most of the high RWHP figures quoted are all probably using Race fuel.

This also comes into play when they say you can get 400 RWHP from stock turbo's and injectors. Without Race Fuel This wouldn't be possible.

The problem is it we can't match those figures with the same mods becuase we only have 98 octane over here. All over mods we have covered.

But then personally I think it's sensible to dyno a car on what it will do on the roads (every day). Not dyno a car on what it could produce. This is just like taking a real nice Z for a test drive and then dopping the power when you buy it. I think the difference between US and UK is, we just wouldn't do that. There's no point.

there also quite keen on using NOS over there, adding 100bhp quite easily. most of the biggies have this.

face it, they have a lot of big hp cars, tuning is very popular over there & is a lot cheaper.

I think the difference is we cars we say have 400 bhp, it has about a grands worth of mods on. While you look at the US mods for 400bhp and they are higher than what we have. That is why we say it has 400bhp and then falls quite short when dyno'd.

Plus is there a difference between a US and UK horse power? I have never heard this before.

We take our car to the rolling road and because we are not getting as much power as people in the US do with a similar spec, instead of saying there is something not right with my car, or my car isnt as high spec as the ones in the US, we say that a whole country just lies about how powerful their Z is. Which ones sounds more realistic.?

There's often a stall at Santa Pod selling huuge Octane race fuel, cant remember the name tho  So it is available just not at petrol stations ;)

I think the problem is that the US will not accept that a dyno can be wrong, maybe its just me as I have no faith in RR's since SE and thor. I think a 3rd RR day is needed :D

There is stuff called 10K boost that does that I think

Thats an additive you chuck in the tank which raises the octane

Toluene does the same thing, it's a carcinogen though ! We used to use to improve the fuel for Battle of The Twins racing. About 10% makes a big difference.

You have to be very careful with it though, the previous owner of my zed used to put it in now and again and once it sprayed back out and damaged the paintwork and the bumper!!

LOL Ask NOS about this stuff I gave him a big container full which he put in his Cavalier , made a massive improvement with only about 5% added , cheap to get to :)

:D you can buy higher octane fuel if you know the right people ;) but it aint cheap, you are looking at about £40 for 10 ltrs of 108-110oct....like i said it aint cheap but if you only want to use it for track / Dyno day then all well and good. It does boost you dyno up a fair bit, saw a mitsi Evo 6 go 55bhp up on the run he did before putting it in and running it about before dyno..:D
