Am I right in thinking that the police and courts have 6 months from the date off offence to summons you for court if youve been caught speeding?

Featured Replies

they have 14 days (but allow 17) to issue you with a Notice of prosecution, once you return that they have 6 months to inform you of your court date

Have you been a bad boy then Berkley?

I haven't been a bad boy, honest. was hoping they couldn't do anything after 6 months after doing a search on it, it seems they have 15 days for the nip but then have 3 bring you to court.

Think Mike is right - I think it was 6 months from after you get that yellow slip  Went to a magistrates on tuesday, to get a feel of it, and there was someone there who had also gone through a "red" light - but cos the case was more than 6 months after it had been issued, they had to dissmiss him. I think it depends on the case though. Fingers crossed I get a summons in another 7 months :)

good luck with that gotidude!

but are the civil servants and/or the system who sort these things really so incompetent as

to issue a summons after its too late and would mean nothing?

the answers probably yes in many instances!

admire u for standing up to 'em mate,

we need more 'motoring criminals' lmfao to do the same.

Can i ask if you have been caught on camera or have you been given an NIP by a police officer ??

The reason i ask is that the police officer has got a time scale to get all his paper work up to date to give to the courts and this is 6 months :(

If you have heard from the courts then they have no time scale which to work from ...your summons will come when it comes

if you think you were caught on camera then the authority that caught you has 14 days which to notify you of your offence and the intended prosicution...

I hope this clears a few points up ;) i only know this as my partner is of the police kind....:slap:
