Hi Guys, 205GTI in the mirror touching my ass so I thought ok I don't normally floor it but time for "launch" in my "Japanese Farrari", travelling at about 60MPH took off the overdrive and booted it, obviously he did the same but was amazed that I didn't start to pull away from him until about 95MPH I am running a totaly stock UK 94 auto Z, do you think his was stock?

BTW ran out of road at 120MPH.

Of course this all took place on an autobarhn in Germany.

Cheers

Ady

I used to have a 200sx s13, slightly tweaked (filter,pipe etc..),

that would keep up with a zed, had 145mph from it

It's that power to weight ratio again!

My 200sx had those mods (i.e. uprated boost, exhaust, filter) & there's no way it would keep up with my Zed. Perhaps some Zed's are quicker than others.

Saying that, I had a 205GTI behind me one day & I left it behind but not by a huge amount, I was very surprised TBH. He must have had something special under the bonnet.

I too once had a 220+bhp 205 dimma turbo, great car but you think keeping the zeds power on the road is hard, you try keeping thats sort of power to the front wheels its hard work but great fun, can remember burning a escort cossie of coming back from blackpool with a few mates in the car with me, the look of discust when i overtook him!! later i was filling up with petrol when he pulled up getting told off by his missus and had a chat with him, he was running 350 bhp!! so the key to speed....lots of power in a car that weighs as much as a baked bean can

Thanks for the response

just a slight comment for those "for" a manual box, i was talking to a guy with an astra GTI that had fitted a biggger vaxhaul engine 6sp box (2ltr) I think, He raced a Z but changed from 6th to 3rd (not intentionally) @ 160 and bent all his valves (maybe snapped the cam blet) I am no machanic........no chance of doing this in an auto! BTW he was waffleing on about beating the Z so I wasn't really paying attention to his full spec.

Cheers

whoops.......GTE

I think the reason why you may have not been able to shrug him off was due to the fact that you got a auto, my advise is to bin it and fit a manual to your Zed!!! :D

Damn! You beat me to it! This had to turn in to a manual V Auto war eventually!

But Ady - on a serious note. I once went to have a look at a road going semi race prepaired 205 in Wales somewhere. What it had under the bonnet I can't remember but at the time I was driving a 153bhp BHP Vauxhall Belmont CDi, which had the same engine in it as the mk2 astra GTE 18 8v, except I had fettled with it a bit. Anyway, to get to the point, the 205 felt like a rocket by comparison but didn't end up buying it because everytime the geezer booted it, the steering wheel would stunt back about 2 inches.

Somehow, I don't think it should have been doing that!

Thanks for the response
