I went to a local (ish) TVR dealer today to discuss buying a Tuscan S due to a recent promotion, things were going really well, test drove it checked it over and started getting down to talking turkey when he told me that on a £35K Tuscan S they'd give me £4000 trade in for mine!! I mean 300's are nowt special i know but i had all the reciepts of the modifications i'd done with all the history as well, it was pretty much spotless inside and out and the fact that i can pretty much keep up with the standard tuscan on most things apart from 0-60mph. Was i expecting too much or is this normal?

i was going to go for a skyline before christmas but i want something British and i'm wondering if i should go for a Noble M12 (in BR green of course) now as i've recently seen one going hell for leather round the lake district and they're fast as fook!!!!!! (and they're only £40K new)

Well if you sell it privately you may get £5-6K, so you can see their point - would they really want to sell a 10 year old Nissan, when they have brand spanking TVR's on the forecourt ?

What will they knock off the Tuscan with no trade in tho?

Offer them 27 and the Z , and if they say no go get the Noble yaaay!

I mean 300's are nowt special i know

BURN HIM..... :D ;)

sorry, didn't mean it like that. I meant it wasn't as if i was trading in a ferrari or something with that social standing/value.

Stu sell the zed on here to someone who can appreciate what you have done, and walk into the dealer with cash and wave it in front of his nose!

Then we will burn you! LOL

Come on Stuey you know the mods would be close to worthless in the re-sale market unless you could sell it to someone who knew you and the car. £4K is a pretty good dealer tradein price considering they have to stock it, prep it, warrant it and sell it - IMHO rip their arm off, private you will be hard pushed to reach £5K unless its very very very special.

Gotta say thought those v8s do sound nice...

£4000 trade in is a good price. Lets consider my girlfriend was offered £100 for Corsa trade in dispite the average price they go for on AutoTrader was £1300.

Stuart - in a trade-in you know you get nothing. if you want to get more for the Zed you will have to sell it privately and that means waiting around for a buyer with all the usual hassles. Your choice.

But great to go from a Zed worth 5K to something like a Tuscan. I test drove one a while back - great stuff but I didn't like the driving postition nor the vibrations and shaking sitting in traffic.

How about a DB7 - refinement and power all in one.

Good luck.

Geoff.

Ahh a DB7 - now that would be a trade. Ive tried the earlier TVRs and agree with Geoff, they shake and vibrate with barely restrained power - great for a funday car but not as a daily driver.

I'm amazed that you're suprised.

Of course your local TVR dealer offered you less than you thought the Zed was worth, they wouldn't put a 10yr old Japanese car on their forecourt so it would have to be pushed out into the trade or sold off at auction, so they'd expect to take a hit on 'book' price anyway. Sell the Zed privately and negotiate on a cash deal, would be my suggestion.

In todays market, dealers dont seem as keen to give or nagotiate a deal just because you wave cash in their face!

4k trade in is a good price on a ten year old car. I just traded in a micra for £300 no comparison to a Z though

You should be able to get an easy private save for 4.5K, i'm sure it's worth more, but I'll be an extra £500 for little effort.

No-one seems to be telling himt okeep his Zed, whats wrong with you all??? :o(

300zx Newbie, you should buy it, I'm sure it'd be cheaper in the long run!

How's your TVR for space Tim?

There's far more headroom in the TVR than the Zed, although there is bugger all legroom if you're in the passenger seat as the battery and electronics are in the footwell!

I'm 6ft and there's loads of room. :D

Go for it! 3R is £51k though

So long as the driver is fine :D:D:D Cheers

Herman, you probably right, but dont TVR's have as many reliability problems as my 300zx????

And TBH I would rather have a 300, been a passenger in a TVR and it really isnt very confortable........my 300 sits on its arches and has 18"s and thats damn more comfortable......depends what u want i guess, JMHO......:)

I think cars respond to how you treat them, thrash the arse off it all the time, and your gonna have problems with any car, Service it correctly, warm it up, cool it down and it should be fine.

Unless it's a Lemon.

And you're saying that because? The bloke down the pubs uncle's next door neighbour used to have a Taimar with a manky old Ford engine... etc etc

There is bugger all to go wrong on my Chimaera, it's a big V8 sitting in a tubular chassis with limited electronics. It's like any car really, get a bad one and it'll be a PITA but get a good one and ...

Go Noble :hyper: :hyper: Noble :hyper: thats my next sports car. Handle like nothing you ever driven just fantastic :hyper: O.K. I like em a bit

You get nowt if you trade in with dealers. Private sales of Z's generally go for a little under £4000 recently anyway, and unless it is a serious mod, you hardly get any money back when you try to sell. All the better for potential buyers of Z, who in a years time will be able to purchase a nice Z for under £5K
