I've just had me car for a week now but have noticed on the motorway at low speeds there's a small vibration going through the car, especially 5th gear doing about 2000rpm(60mph), go upto 80 or 90mph and it seems to get better. Don't really notice it on 'A' roads could it be the propshaft U/J bearings or could it be something more serious and expensive. Can't compare with any other 'Z' cause I never been in one before I bought mine.

any ideas very welcome, cheers Jonny......

p.s sorry for the essay!!!!!!!

Jonny - this might sound like a daft idea but..

Do you get the same vibration with the roof off?

I have a vibration through the seat (as it were) at about the same speed.. But take the roof off - and it's gone... I'm guessing its something to do with airflow (my car is also missing the lower engine bay shroud in part..)..

Worth a try.. Failing that - sounds very much like the symptoms of a worn prop shaft UJ or centre bearing..

hi jonny

i have had the same problem

some people here suggested it may be the wheels need balancing and or the tracking needs aligning

i haven't had either done yet, its not that bad, hope its not my propshaft though!

Regards

could well be and is more likly the wheel balencing, the propshaft it could also be but that is not a total trainsmash i dont think. Hasent steve e got a new propshaft ?

Unless you're feeling it through the steering wheel, then I would get first the rear wheel balance checked and then perhaps the prop shaft. However, if it's the prop then I would expect you to feel similar vibes at the same engine speeds in the other gears.

Forgot wheel balancing - I had some vibes that went away when I had the wheels balanced properly..

But Andy - the propshaft is after the gearbox, and so rotational speed is in proportion to road speed, not engine speed, surely?

Ahh, knew I had parked something in neutral - it was my brain, not the car ..... redface.gif

What I really intended it to mean was you would notice it at that road speed in all gears ...

Think we can let you off that one wink.gif

Sounds strange, but it might be the road. There is one road where I live and it feels like I am driving on rumble strips. All other roads are ok.

However I have found different tarmacks make different, noise, vibrations. Try going down a different motorway and see then

Mine was vibrating...ohhhh errr Mrs....between about 30 and 50 mph. Didn't do it all the time, more intermittent! But I checked out this guyZ report on www.carsurvey.org/review_3859.html which was most interesting.

In most cases I think it's the prop. shaft, but like Andy said this can be caused by wheel balancing etc.

I noticed this, in Brum(Birmingham on the M6) on the inside lane just before the RAC centre the lorry lane...they've really made a distinct impression on the tarmac which if you don't realise it would scare the pants off you! Deep troughs in the surface which send you all over the place.

Sounds like the prop shaft centre support bearing to me - exact symptoms. Check out http://www.twinturbo.net and look in the FAQ section. There should be something in there that helps wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy

Had the rear wheels put on the correct sides and re-balanced. On testing my car out on different roads no difference even on the motorway, I can actually feel the vibration through the steering although it's very slight, basically anything above 3000rpm in any gear also dipped the clutch coasting along but the vibration is still there tingling my ass!!!

Anyone have a Propshaft for sale??? or should I just take it off and replace the UJ bearings and centre bearing!! Anyone know of a garage I could use close to Lancaster??????
