I have heard on the news and from friends and famliy that its going to be really cold next week between -8ºC and -14ºC.

I have looked on the BBC web site and in the North West and the coldest its says on there is -2ºC, a long way from the -14ºC people have been talking about.

Not saying it wont be cold, but do you think the media is doing the typical thing of making a mountain out of a mole hill?

IIRC The met office actually get all their weather info from someone called Matty Lloyd ;)

Yeah we do actually. We look at our computer models, generated on our multi million pound supercomputers, compare the output to outher Met Offices around the world, decide on the best solution, then ask Matty to have a glance over the answer. It's like a "the man from del monte - he say yes!" moment.

BTH a lot of 5 day forecasts are automatically genetrated and do not allow for cold or hot spots around the country, a low lying site, like Benson Airfield in the SE can be as much as 5 C colder than somewhere in a town, with lots of concrete and a heat island effect only a few miles away. You will probably get -14 next week on the top of Ben Nevis, but that's the headline figure. And then the wind chill makes it -28, so the Sun says -28 in Britain, it'll freeze you nadgers off.

It will be cold next week tho. And my Zed's going nowhere near.

dude, i got it from century fm weather report, yaow callin me a liar?
