I noticed some Subaru Impreza's have a dash button to spray water on the intercooler for more power and decided to fit my own version!

Bought the bits from Halfords for about £7.00...

2.4m Washer Hose, T-Piece, None-Return Valve, Double Washer Jet.

Cut the washer pipe just before it heads up to the bonnet and fit T-Piece.

Connect new hose with valve in-line.

Run hose down engine bay under headlight.

Drill hole in inside edge of front skirt and fit washer jet nozzle and adjust to spay intercooler. Done in 20 mins!

If you don't have a valve in the pipe the low mounted jet syphons all the water from your washer bottle :-(

Now I just wash the screen to cool things...

Could be done with a separate washer pump and dash switch etc but seemed like a waste of time really.

I'll see if it makes much difference tomorrow! biggrin.gif

Better still...If you've replaced your front bumper with a *new* one and dont want the light washers - use all the original hardware, but fit the jets inside the intercooler scoops!

(Ok, so I've not done this, but might do, when I've fitted the bumper to the car!)

basically the intercooler(s) acts as a huge heat sink during operation and so the idea of cooling it during boost is pointless, best method is to cool the babies before boost takes place, ie pre-emt the cooler spray to act upon the intercoolers, not when they are maxed out with hard wotk, but before they start their business.

If anyone can come up with a spray cooler that is semi intelligent - ie reads the drivers driving aspirations and ambitions - then I would be most interested in the little device/doobrie/widget/thingy smile.gif

Check out this one!

My Z is an early import with no headlight washers so didn't have that option but it would be preferable.

Only prob I have is the washer bottle is still draining itself over night!

I'll sort it over the weekend...

Don't think any imports had headlight washers. Why is the bottle emptying, because of the siphon effect or because of a split? Quick fix for a split is a plastic bag inside the bottle, not sure how easy that is given the long neck of the bottle on a Zed. Or is the neck seperate from the bottle ?

The jet is mounted below the level of the washer bottle and after spraying the water just keeps on seeping out the nozzles!

The bottle is empty within a couple of hours.

Need a small valve of some sort that only lets the water through when it's under pressure.

The little valve that prevents seepage is available from Nissan, part number 28628-11C00.

I have also done this mod to my car, details here: http://www4.bs.monash.edu.au/oz32/Tech/icspray1.htm

But, I have not actually wired it up (after about 6 months and 2 track events now!!) so can't comment on its effectiveness.... I kind of lost interest smile.gif

Thanks Ben, I'll get one of those valves on order.
