Cruise Control

This has never worked since I bought the car. When I press the switch on the right console the green dash light comes on, but when I press 'set coast' on the wheel, nothing happens. The wires are plugged in at the back of the wheel and I also checked the switch behind the gas pedal by pulling it up with the top of my foot whilst trying to engage cruise. Still nothing. All the fuses are ok too.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Yes - I tried it at all speeds just to check.

Trust the obvious like being over 30mph and under 90 when you try it otherwise it wont!

Maybe look at the brake pedal sensor. Its set so the slightest touch of the pedal drops it out. Maybe with some wear or a new master cylinder at some time it needs adjustment. Then look at the vacuum plumbing to the throttle cables etc under the bonnet

Good luck with the second green light that comes on when engaged.

There's another green light? I'm really missing out!

I checked the brake pedal already - not the gas!:slap:

Where would I find the vacuum plumbing?

Thanks

99% of the time this is caused by the clutch switch being out of adjustment - you can usually tell if its this by driving along, lifting the clutch pedal towards you with your left foot and then trying to activate the cruise - you can do this with the brake too just to make sure ;) If it IS the switches, its a bit of a bugger to get to but I'll talk about that when we find out the problem ;)

Thanks Andy :)

Right..I'll try that and let you know if it works - it maybe a few days until I get hold of the car though. will let you know

I bet the clutch adj is why mine doesn't work... another check for the list when I get it back!

Pah! Cruise control is for Grandads anyway! You should be accelerating ALL the time. :D

Excellent... I wonder if I can achieve takeoff at the top of Thirlwell... 150mph should do it nicely!

:D I don't know it I'll ever use it - it just really annoys me when there's something not working on the car - nomatter what it is!!

Buy an aftermarket steering wheel, (with no cruise control on it) then you won't have to worry that it doesn't work! You could even pretend it does. :p

hmm. you might have a point there... the Momo Millenium looks pretty good...

That's the one!

How does it still work without the buttons?

Ah! Sorry - being a bit dense there!:slap: It would go really well in the Zed I reckon.
