A pretty dull question you may think but, this morning, while enjoying the superb winter sunshine, a HUGE bumble bee decided to enter my car. I tried to encourage the thing out but instead, it decided to warm itself up inside the vents below the windscreen.

 

I have tried to get it out but it's not for moving. Seems it had to squeeze in to vent so I guess it's busy making a hive now.

 

How long do they live and am I likely to get the damn thing hurtling towards me when I least expect it!?

if its a queen bee then 3-5 years, if its a drone male bee then 40-50 days ;) if its a worker female then about 24 days

Well I didn't see a crown, it was waving and certainly didn't have a corgi so I presume it's one of the others.

 

I best try and get it out then I guess!

Well bee careful - if it gets into your turbos you will definitly over boost!!!

Was it a bumble bee or a honey bee?

 

Besides being attractive, Bumble bees are beneficial to the environment, as they act as pollinators of many fruit trees and other plants. It is very unusual for Bumble bees to sting and in fact they have to be very severely provoked before they will do so. The sting however may be very painful. There is therefore every reason to conserve Bumble bees as they would not normally be troublesome in the house.

 

Encourage the bumble bee in your garden or farm and she will repay your kindness by pollinating your flowers, fruit and vegetables and giving you an excellent set on your blossom.

Once the queen has selected the site she starts to build her nest. If the space is too small she extends it, up to about the size of a clenched fist,

 

What to do if you find a Nest Try not to disturb it. If its in an awkward place try to put up with it for a few weeks. Remember it will die out with the first frosts and can then be safely removed .

I had one of these b'stads get into my visor while I was riding my fireblade. I hit it with the visor partially open at about 30mph and it caught the bottom of the visor and climbed in - when oyu have one an inch away from your eye buzzing you sort of forget your riding a bike - slammed the brakes on - didnt care what was behind me - jumped off bike, shaking head violently (to REALLY antagonize it) then whilst loudly shouting F**k F**k I removed my lid precision so as not to get it caught between me and my cheek pads :(

Not a nice experience

Well, seems everyone has had a laugh at that one :D

 

The bee decided to pop out this morning and sit itself on my door. Looked a bit groggy but OK. It then had a quick stretch, whizzed past my face and buzzued out the window.
