Hi,

I was considering to buy the "racelogic traction control system" (group Buying etc..)...so I asked my insurer, ADMIRAL, about it....and after some talking and a call back from them they said:.....If you fit traction control to you car we won't be able to insure it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What the F**k!!!!!!!!!

This is because they say that traction control also improves PERFROMANCES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And then with traction control the driver could be pushed to go faster around corners!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IGNORANTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I plan to do some mod and take my car from standard to something between 350 and 380 bhp (no way above 400bhp)....I want to then add traction control ......

Does any of you guys have a 300zxTT with traction control insured for a decent premium?...

At the moment I'm 29, 6+ no claim bonus, Original UK car...aftermarket exaust (mongose)....and my premium including cover for legal fees is £699........is this a decent quote?....

I need to find an isurer open to insure my car adding some extra bhp and traction control

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

We live in a strange , strange world. Where officialdom reigns supream..kinda makes you feel good to be alive dun it...mate the bueracrats (can`t spell) running this county have lost it.How about the traction control fitted as standard to many cars..how about abs brakes...how about sports suspension..spoilers bigger wheels and so on and so and so on....all fitted as standard on many cars.Personally and this is only MY opinion most insurance companies would know the back end from the front let alone if traction control was fitted or an improved chip fitted if u know what I am saying but that`s me.

There is a real danger of this people almost forcing drivers to not insure, something I know we all would not condone but its a fact its gonna start happening more and more.its because of this I am so paranoid when other cars get too close.

My condolances mate on your loss..(Of faith in insurance companies)

Ooooeerr, mines Admiral and I haven't told them ....

My mate with an MR2 Turbo (but he's not a hairdresser) insures his with Dorset Insurance and they didn't mind about the TC or Water Injection !!!

Howdy,

With Adrian Flux I have been quoted £945 for my Z with all my mods listed and mods insured full NCB. Limited to 6000 miles a year. Best I've had so far. I am also about to snap up a standard 200sx S13 for going to work in (got tired of the Susuki Swift) the quote for that is £651 as it's a second car with 0 ncb but they offer 40% introductory discount.

These insurance companies hate modded cars but Adrian Flux seem to be more open minded than the others I have tried.

I don't have the traction control yet so I don't know what they would say to that, probably worth giving them a try.

I cant understand why you guys tell them every single detail of the mods you have, when you knwo even if you are honest they are going to shaft you.!!!!

do you honestkly think the local insurer who comes to evaluate your claim knwos what a racelogic traction controll system looks like?

For fucks sake most of these idiots dont even knwo what the standard wheel looks like

Hmmm, I know one person who had an MR-2 Turbo that got totalled...insurance guy knew what a Turbo Timer looked like and they reduced his claim! He was told he was lucky they didn't just walk away without paying him...scarey!

My Bro was telling me that the insurers are now hiring specialist assessors to look over Jap. cars and the like with the sole intention of spotting mods. Door spins both ways, high insurance prices mean more Personal Injury claims are starting to pinch the insurers so if they can get out of paying you they'll find anything that will give them grounds to do just that!!! Be careful!

;-)

A-Plan cover me for £750 with mods inc TC and 8 points on my licence.

They are very flexible and helpfull too.

I called about 20 specialist companies last month and ended up staying with them as they covered me at 2 addresses whilst I moved house around the renewal date. No one else came near and the fact that I didn't have to get a re-quote after moving did it for me.

My new address was a better/cheaper area but most companies insisted I re-negotiate after I moved which is a waste of time and they said they couldn't gaurantee a lower price then anyway!

A-plan?...never heard of them...can you give me a phone number please?

Hi,

They're very good...Try tel: 0845 071 1234 or fax: 01635 879911.

That's their number for the 'special schemes centre' at Thatchan.

JEZ

Ah ok thanks...

I'm trying to get in touch with them right now..I'll let you know how it goes...(finger and everything else crossed!)

Oh by the way the phone number above is only for the JAP-Import cars...if anyone needs it the number for UK cars is TEL: 01494 677 776

they where very busy so I have to wait for them to call me back....WAITING smile.gif

'scuse me Mr Admiral insurance,

Question: Doesn't TC make the car safer, less likely to spin out, and less likely to result in a claim?

answer: No, it only makes you drive more recklessly.

Insurers are a bit paranoid - poor old ducks. Its the old "is the glass half empty or half full?'

So the moral of the story is "dont buy a new m3 cause it comes standard with TC and when the insures find out they drop your valuation???" what a load of crap.

yes it is all very stupid of them....a friend of mine with a SupraTT (which comes with a TC already fitted)....wants to change the TC with the new Racelogic he has purchased...and guess what the insurance doesn't like it...he has same problem at the moment....even if the car alread comes with one...

still waiting to talk to A-Plan...hang on smile.gif

fact 1) insurance co's will try every which way to get out of a claim

fact 2) Racelogic TC does actually get you from A to B a LOT faster than without TC.

I don't disagree that it IS safer, but the fact is you're more likely to drive quicker with a TCS system.

Maybe...just maybe.. the insurance companies have cottoned onto the fact that Racelogic TCS gives you a shitload more ability to get round corners quicker. And maybe.. leftfield again, they've heard about the adjustable slip knob, or worse still Launch Control.

Nobodies been brave enough to mention to insurers the little green button have they ?

I know just about every commoner whom I talk to about Launch Control.. they're like "launch what??".. I explain what it does and there's just this stare of disbelief.

Guys don't kid yourselves, you know full well why they aren't insuring you.

Rowan

[This message has been edited by kiwi_z (edited 30-08-2001).]

Valid point! But don't know why there's such a fuss about the Launch Control...everyone I've asked "does it work?" says they've not tried it! Why? Plus this is supposed to be the same system used in F1 isn't it? Well maybe it doesn't work then coz one driver recently got fired from his team, can't remember which...was it Verstappen??? Coz lauch control which is used at the start of the race failed to work...TWICE! LMAO!

DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A-Plan got back to me and they only found ONE Insurance company that would insure my car as it is (stock standard) for £1600!!!

(well luckly enough I pay £699 with Admiral)...and they would add at least a 25% (of 1600) for covering mods!!!

way too expensive....it is because insurance companies that sometime I think....shall I sell my car?.....the think is that I love my car and I want to get Traction Control and some little Mod.....but If I can't do that...mmm...not much fun really

I'm now going to try some more insurances including "privilege"....suggested to me byu someone

believe me Launch Control works !!! Wet roads dry roads, drag strip, drag tyres.. it works and works well.

The launching is just unblieveble. I've kissed goodbye to a TTZ thats supposed to be dumping down more ponies than mine and it was all in the start..

I've found, with a lightweight flywheel, that 5500rpm with just 0.1bar of boost is all you need for a really rapid f**k off start. Thats on 265/40/17 Toyo T1s', or on the dragstrip 275/40/17 Nitto 555r's.

For wank value alone sitting on the 5500rpm limiter with a big howling exhaust sounds unreal smile.gif

Rowan

Damn again..

Privilege Insurance.....mmm..

Including Traction Control it would be just over £900 (around 900).....with some mod like air filter and chip manag.Control...with bhp gain of about 20% to 30%...from 300 to about 370bhp they want around £1200....

what do you say?

Yeah but mate, you're missing one thing here. You phone up for a quote on a 225 bhp Escort Cosworth or Sapphire Cossie 4x4 as standard and you'll get a shock! Take a step back and look at what you are trying to insure...

Basically a Super Car, bollox to the fact that it maybe 10 years old etc. But at the end of the day it's a 3litre V6 with Twin blowers. You ain't gonna get a Metro quote for it, standard or modded. I was paying 800 squid to insure a 1986© Saab Aero Turbo. Car cost me about 1700 squid to buy, 2litre 16valve single piddly blower and only 175bhp. My Supra cost me about 500 a year which I thought was damn reasonable for what it was. Merc costs me 450 a year which is N/A for christs sake!

You wanna insure a car with a possible 350-400 hp and you think you'll get that below 1K large...good luck my friend!

Tim

;-)

yeah you probably right...but it is that from paying £699 it is a big jump to £1200...

Also that other guy in this thread has 8 points on his license and mods adn TC...and he only pays 750....the thing is that Insurance compnies change their method of pricing quickly...so yesterday you could have had a very good quote..then the day after they may decide that all turbo cars are too risky and they charge more....mmmmmm

FINALLY!!!

Ok I went with Sun Allience (through Flux though) and the insurance is £750...

Now 750 is 50 more then my Admiral renewal...BUT with S-Allience I can fit Traction Control and they will only charge me £20!!!!! for Admin Charges....and the same should be for about 15% increase of bhp....Well not bad considering Admiral simply said NO to Traction Control....

Ok guys thanks for your support smile.gif

Later

I do not know....mmm...maybe give them a call....I don't have their number...I went through flux...maybe if you call them direct it could be even cheaper!

Yeah, I'm 30, 8 points, 30 day ban 2 years ago, performance and body mods, TC etc

I do live in a very low risk area though and it's an import so I went through the specialist vehicle centre at A-Plan - the policy is with Axa. Maybe this policy is not an option for the UK spec Z's.

Maybe an import is cheaper after all!
