with nearly every city having speed humps its obvious that a front end as low as th strosek original wouldnt last u a trip round th block. how much ground clearance do u need at th minimum to get away with a low front end over th humps? is ths affected by the size of ur wheels/tyres?

even the stock front is too low for some speed humps, and as for ramps, forget about it! Main thing is to buy a polyurethane (?) one, that way it flexes if you hit something where a fibreglass one would break. As for the wheels, it doesnt matter what size rims you have, the overall diamater should be the same so it makes no difference to ride height.

thanx clarkey

do u get all of th styles in polywotsit and FG or does the material depend on each individual one?

am sure if u go slow enough u could manage to get over a hump without any damage, my cousin hired a ferrari 355 for his weddin g bout 4 months back and that was really low, they dint seem to have too much trouble goin over humps tho.

i have also seen ppl zig-zaging over humps, they drive up the hump at an angle and down th other side goin in th other direction. does this even work? i cant understand how it would

Yeah it works because your leading wheel hits the bump sooner than it would if you drove straight, 2 wheels together, so it lifts the front up earlier.

My '99 spec f/bumper goes over speed ramps alright.

yeh but at th same time dnt u also make th leading corner go over the hump sooner than it would if u came at it straight on?

i no it definatley would work if u approached th ramp at a very shallow angle, but then th car would be almost blocking th road so its impractical, is the small change in direction which is often taken worth th effort?

would stiffer suspension also help protect a low body on riding over a hump? (wdnt b 2 comfortable tho)

I read the other day that there is a law on how high speed bumps can be?? the local council had to pay for repairs because a speed bump was too high.

Might be worth checking

Is it the overall height or the gradient which there is a law against ?

Becuase some of the bumps round my way had the front edes worn down so it's like driving up a kurb, the bump itself is not actually that high.

Im about to have mine lowered by 40mm (I think thats the max you can do on a Zed) - I live in potholey Sheffield so its gonna be interesting.

I live in Burnham on sea , there's speed humps all through the high street and my front is only about 3 inches off the road!

I go over them at 0.005 mph and scrape on every one!

No damage done tho.

I think the main thing to be carefull of is clipping a kerb as you're driving ! Havent done it yet!

Also, if youre going down a driveway or pub entrance on a slope it'll scrape as u level off. I couldnt get out of a car park 'exit' once and caused mayhem as i had to reverse out the 'in' way

lol. All gud fun.

I think the suspension finds it easier to cope that way - the multilink setup is designed to cope with independent bumps on each wheel. If you drive straight at the ramp you put the shock through all your ties / struts / bars / bushings at the same time!

I think that's why it works, the whole movement of the car is more gradual if you approach at an angle.

Another trick is to stop or almost stop before and then accelerate a little bit for the last few feet, so the nose of the car comes up a little. That gets me down multistories nicely too.

I hate the little ones that are like cable kickguards only a bit higher - they seem to have been designed specifically to destroy suspension and tyres rather than slow anyone down...
