Hi Folks,

Im planning to do some major upgrading on my Twin Turbo in the very near future, turbos, fuel system etc etc

Thing is, im a bit stuck on ECU, is there only the option of a replacement chip like SE or JWT or are there any plug in Management units that I can jack a PC onto and tune myself as and when things change?

Seems a bit silly to have to get a new chip every time the setup of the car changes :S

Maybe im missing something obvious here, anyone car to put me straight?

Thanks

Dan

Hi Mate

There are many different chips from a off the shelf chip like JWT etc or a custom chip from SE, the next one (which i did) is a piggy back ecu, i got the greddy e-manage and you can plug the old laptop in and change it and the last one is a full replacement ecu which costs alot more but is more reliable so it all comes down to cost. Thats why i went for the greddy as its only £300-400 which you can pay for a decent chip anyway!!!

Cheers

There's E-Manage or Ash's Romulator which is an Eprom emulator with a PC front end, or full Motec/DTA ECU's etc.

Having said that you don't need to swap chips really after the initial one unless you do fairly major mods. That's not to say you won't get better results with a mappable, you will - it's just wether you want to spend the cash/time.

that sounds like the kinda thing im after, Ive had motec and DTA stuff on previous car, and it was a PAIN to install and that was on a Cavalier 4x4 Turbo, so I dread what something like that would be like on a Z32

So the emange seems the way forward...do I still need an off the shelf chip to allow higher boosting and fueling, or does the emanage intercept all that stuff?

Millions of questions I know, but Id rather ask and look stupid, than spend £1000s and get it wrong.

Cheers

The emanage takes over all the fueling etc from the standard chip so you can set it or get it mapped by someone, i got mine from getgreddy as he's about the cheapest, not a bad bloke either:D

I think for the money you cant beat it.

Kirbz

surely the cost involved in re-mapping the ecu is not in the physical chip itslef it's in the man hours of setting it up.

just my 2p

Regards,

I agree Alex, thats why if your going to go down that route you need to have someone who has all the right equipment and more importantly know what there doing, the place i am going to to map my car knows the emanage really well and takes about 2-3 hours to map it properly.

Hows your zed at the mo alex??

HI Mike - better than she was,

engine remapping is a bit of sore point at the moment - she was running sweeeeet - really sweet a dream to drive then i changed the injectors for nismo 555's. SE ran out of time with the custom map so she ran like a dog - i went down the other day and spent another 3 hours and she is running well but i've still another session booked early january to try to complete the custom map - god it's labour intensive.

i'm running 380 bhp flywheel at 11 psi without the e-01 set up - the boost was very irregular on the rolling road down at se -

compared to the rolling road day - i have more torgue than all of the cars tested but the bad fueling meant that i just tailed off dropping the bhp figure down. Bear in mind this was at 11 psi and the cars at the rolling road day were running 16 psi.

I am hoping that with more work to the custom map we shooud hit 440 ish on that rolling road so fingers crossed 460 bhp at thor in jan.

Hows the project going? are you going to make thor??

Regards,

alex
