My '91 TT auto uk spec makes a weird clicking/ticking noise which rises with the revs until the engine is warmed up. I've had the air con, fan and power steering belts change three weeks ago. There were squeaking noises initially but once they were re-tensioned, the noises disappeared but this new ticking seems to have been introduced. Could it be that one of the belts still needs tightening? I don't think it's the turbos because revving the engine in neutral doesn't produce the ticking sound. Oh, the noise comes from the engine-I can't make out where precisely since it only ticks when the car is in motion. Unfortunately I can't get anyone to running fsat enough alond side the car to locate the position of the source...yet.

Any ideas??????I'm stumped.

It's probably the self adjusting tappets. Your oil change could have brought it on, did you change brands or weight to something thinner. Check the oil level too.

Mine has done that many times in the past and has now dissapeared, maybe my more frequent oil changes help, although it's very thin oil.

Sounds like cold oil and semi blocked oil feeds. See the other post in the forum about the arguments against oil additives etc.
