As many of you are aware, I'm no longer a Z owner but I'd appreciate any suggestions for a short term bodge I need.

My Pajero has sprung a leak, as can be seen here :

The leak is from all around that joint and is a slow drip - not too much pressure.

I believe that the joint is a push fit with a rubber O ring and the O ring has perished. I'll be going to Mitsubishi tomorrow to check that I've got this right and order the replacement O ring. But if they don't have it available by Christmas then I'll need a short term bodge.

My initial idea is to clean it up with thinners (maybe brake cleaner?) and to then shove some instant gasket around it.

Does anyone have any other ideas ? It needs to be temporary and I'm not keen to use Radweld.

Any help will be hugely appreciated.

Cheers

Dave

Do not use rad weld Dave!

I would go with a tube of instant gasket until you get the part from Mitsubishi;)

you may be able to match up an o ring from a motor factors or a garage may have one.

weve got a kit at work with about 30 different sizes of O rings, you can also get a kit which is different thicknesses of beading which you cut & glue together to form O rings

Looks perfect for araldite once its cleaned up - the epoxy will sit in there just nice and seal for ever once its set. Be a bit of a bu99er to get off again tho.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The problem with trying to match a non OEM O ring is that I suspect that once I remove the pipe it will never seal again. It's my only car and I can't risk it being undriveable if I can't make a match. I live in the sticks !

Araldite did cross my mind but I really want to do the job properly afterwards and don't relish the idea of removing it ...

Still thanks for your thoughts and I'd welcome anyone elses.

Cheers

Dave

Use some hermatite from halfords - will do the job nicely - just use plenty of it.
