Just about to buy a 300ZX in the next few weeks....but they all seem to have starship mileage on aroung here......providing they've been properly serviced what'll these engines go to before a rebuild ?

N/A and Turbos respectively.

cheers

How long is a piece of string?

It all depends on how well they have been looked after.

I think an engine that has been well maintained should do plus 200k (there are a few in the states with that milage)

Crazy Eddie has about 120K on original turbos. This seems like a pretty good achievement, as many pack up by 60-90K miles.

Most of the US models with stellar mileage and no rebuilds are NA's. Turbo's just don't live that long due to the monster turbine speeds and weak bearings.

Take a look at a few imports - they are usually very low mileage in comparison.

My '91 TT came with 47000 on the clock and a service history (in Japanese for what it's worth!)

Engine looked like new and no problems at all.

As far as imports go, are there any major differences between the Jap and Uk spec cars ?

Parts for example ?

I know that Toyota Supra imports have different brake components and turbos etc....R there any major differences on Jap 300s ....

Also, you guys with imports, did you buy them from an importer or direct from the auctions ??

I'm planning to go to Dublin to have a look round the auctions before they close them down....proper bargains to be had...

I have a little short off 120,000 UK miles in mine.

*Still* on original turbos. Second set of sparkies and timing belt. All else (touch wood) is fine

I have 144,000 miles in the clock with the original turbos. I have no oil leaks and the engine is in fine condition

I bought a UK car with 140k and original turbos, the seals were only just strarting to go.. the fact that it only showed 75k on the odometer meant a full refund but to be fair to the car and its previous owner (not the fucking welcher of a dealer that sold me it tho) the car had been looked after and the *engine* itself was still solid.

My Jap has 74k on it and to my mind there is not a thing wrong with it mechanically. It came with a turbo timer already fitted which if you do buy an import is always a good sign, in fact its a good sign full stop coz if someone spends a couple of hunded quid on a gadget that screws up your immobilizer and makes you stand there for 2 minutes waiting for the car to stop, then that person is serious about looking after the turbine bearings.

If you get an import Norwich Union Direct will not load the premuim as the the 300zx Twin Turbo (has to be a TT) was sold in the UK anyway, but they only allow 3 mods.

There are no differences between the UK and JAP except K/MH clocks, mmHG boost gauge, no rear fogs and a stupid radio that can only pick up hilversum wink.gif

Oh and the Jap might come with an small bomb clipped into the passenger footwell, which is nice smile.gif

Ooops forgot mileage.

You should not consider mpg.

It is not part of the equation of ownership of a 300zxTT.

Coz you get bugger all, but trust me you will never begrudge putting 40quids worth of 97super in these cars.

If you think you might, dont buy one. Simple, coz they cost big bucks to run

R there any major differences on Jap 300s

Imports dont have a diff oil cooler and I think the rad is a bit different as well.

Brakes are the same i.e. 4 pot fronts, 2 pot rears (unlike import Scoobys and Supras which have low spec brakes compared to the UK counterpart). However I think certain non turbo imports have no ABS, but I belive this was an option on the early non turbos.

Green tinted windows on UK, Bronze tint on Imports.(I know this well dont ask why!)

The interiors are different in that not many imports have leather whereas most UK models have.

Cant think of anything else that comes to mind.

My cars done over 170K uk spec granted most of that is motorway mileage but the engine is spot on.

Mine's almost at 100k on original turbos, been chipped for a good 50k (5 years) of that and many more mods after.

Bet it blows up now I said that! 8)
