I tink me starter motor phucked 'cos now & again in don't start the engine just makes a crunching/schreeching noise as though it's not engaged with the flywheel teeth, stop and retry all is well?????????

Anyway you might get away with taking the starter off and greasing it up with some high temp grease.. Although I'd put money on that being a bugger of a job on the Z...
