OK - I found the sight glass.. I really wasn't looking for something that looked quite like that! smile.gif

It looks like.. Well.. Bubbly white stuff (use your imagination guys wink.gif ), so it's gotta be super-mega-low on freon (which I'm assuming is still R12 in my system)..

Question - does anyone around my way (ish, dont mind travelling 100 or so miles) have a reliable aircon guy who can either refill the system with R12 (sshhhh.. dont tell anyone) or one of the R12-safe mixes? (R438 was it?). Or are any of you running R134a OK?

Cheers..

Yeah, I think mine could do with a sniff of the hard stuff too, at least whilst it's still available. I hear that http://www.webvert.co.uk/aircondirect/ can supply R12 if you ask nicely. According to my handbook, later UK Z's have R-134a - I guess there are changes to the system.

How can you tell if your Air con needs recharging. Mine is cold but only on lo speed. Hi speed is cool but not cold

Stuart,

you can find the procedure in the tech section of this site.

When it comes to running R134, you have to at least change the filter/drier and add ester oil.

The aircon guys now that, so there shouldn't be a problem.

As far as the efficiency goes, mine works just fine.
