Has anyone been up close and personal with their speedo convertors (to convert jap speedo's to show MPH instead of KPH)?

What I want to know is;

Is the speedo convertor wired in line with the speedo, therefore also converting the speed signal that the ECU sees (since the ECU takes its feed from the speedo), or should the ECU feed come off the speed signal wire *before* the convertor? Therefore letting the ECU(s) see the KPH signal unaltered while the speedo sees MPH?

Cheers me-dears..

On the MPG front - dont worry, I get 13MPG round town ! smile.gif

Never MPG lol not even with only three cylinders running.

AS far as the speedo conversion, mine is apparentyl a balls up, was done at the clocks (by none other than..........) i wont mention the name in case of a backlash.

But im not so sure now who is telling me the truth about the speedo conversion.

I.E WHO DOES IT THE BEST AND WHAT IS THE CORRECT WAY OF DOING IT?

Best way is to fit a UK unit from a breakers at £100 its roughly the same price as a speed conversion but you get all the other clocks converted at the same time get rid of the 60 mph chime a warning light for the rear fog lights and its a self fit in 30 mins

and is guarranteed to work.Have done both of my imports and a previous mates,no probs

Jeff - what about speed limiters etc? Although mine doesn't appear to be limited (unless that's what makes it drop out of drive, but I doubt that somehow) at all - I wondered if that was down to the speed convertor though..

If it really is as simple as dropping in UK clocks - I'll be on the hunt for a set!

What do you reckon then? Just UK clocks, no ECU changes required?

Cheers,

Az

Yeh aaronjb mate if you have no limiter just change the clocks and all is done, the limiter cuts back on the fuel or timing or both so the loss of drive you have is not related to a limiter, I would suggest a service on the box cost is around £50 which is for a drain down, replace filter and refill with new fluid. If anything nasty is going on in the box it will be revealed then.

Jeff TT

Yeah - gonna do the box just as soon as I get an oil pan gasket, screen, and a job lot of synth ATF..

I think the drive problem is related to the speed sensor fault that the tranny ECU is throwing - which is why I want to remove the speed convertor & sort the wiring mess out behind the clocks.. (Only loses drive when you are in kickdown.. Did 300 miles and didn't lose drive once at >100MPH)

Cheers.. Off to find some UK clocks now then smile.gif

You just know that this is gonna be bollox so pre-pair yourself! LOL!

Find a Scooby or an EVO or an M3 or a Boxster...then...only then...wait for it..........

I do more than 600 miles a week and have done for about the last 4 years. In that time I've been driving fast cars and at one point I had 11 points on my license!!! Still managed to stay on the road thanks to a good solicitor! I regularly cain my cars unlike some people like old gits in BMW's that rarely exceed 50mph...fuck off and buy a Hyundai Lantra.

And even if I did lose my license with the way the camera situation is going, I don't think that I would be alone if I said "fuck the law! I'm gonna keep on driving!" so FUCK OFF MATE! In good humour, of course!
