I don't claim to be the worlds leading authority on this particular make of car, but you should understand something(s)
Buying a 300ZX is not as clear cut as buying any other car. Most Z cars are hitting a decade plus in age, be careful, your average used car dealer hasn't changed personallity over night either! Any used car whether it be a Mini or a Ferrari will take your money and you for a ride into hell if you aren't careful.
Although we love to cast dispersion on Mr. Wilson, he does speak some sense, but the worst thing about buying a fast car is being sucked in by the "cheesey grin" factor!
Say you have 5K to spend on a car, you may have kids etc. and want to be sensible but you may not, and can afford to blow it on something faster.
So, you're faced with a Ford Escort or a Z? What do you do? Take out the Escort and you'll be yawning at the first set of traffic lights! Take out the Z be it N/A or TT and you'll be grinning like a Ginger Cat on Acid with Ginger Lynn(porn star) riding you all the way home!
It's simple...
Escort = Sensible, reliable, cheap parts & service...Mrs. will like it!
Z = Cheap to buy in comparison, Satanic performance, expensive to run and maintain...Mrs. will either love it or hate you in the process coz you spend more time with it than you do shopping for curtains with her!
Be realistic, these cars were a "Super Car" when they were unleashed...if you don't want to spend 400 squid having a heater matrix replaced at you local Nissan dealer or thousands when your gearbox or engine need rebuilding at a mere 70K forget it! It's not the car for you...buy a Golf GTi or a Corrado or an MR-2 etc. etc. But you must realise that all sports cars cost money to run on a day to day basis. I've had nothing but semi-fast cars before the Z and they all cost bucks to keep on the road! Even if nothing goes wrong! My Brother had a 1990 Honda Prelude 4ws, 16v...lovely car...no expensive turbos to look after etc. But he is testament to the fact that if you are not JD Rokkafella they cost money to run. Honda parts are expensive, Nissan parts are expensive, Toyota parts are expensive...so sum it all up, do your homework and then make up your mind!
If you do decide on a Z then go with it! Stick with it! I have! they are an excellent motor, but if you're upto the limit on all 20 credit cards, Mrs. is hassling you for another sprog, new carpets are coming in a few weeks and you are a massive owned share of the bank in overdraft...don't do it!
