Some good some bad. Love the power, tight handling and how small the car feels inside - very easy to place.

Couple of problems though....

Toodling down a straight, HICAS light comes on and the speedo drops off. Hmmm thought they had fixed that.

Then along comes a thump like runing over a large cats eye. Scan the instuments all looks OK, temp gauge climbing a little, A/C going colder.

Steam from the bonnet edges at the next junction.

Oh dear.

Phone up garage. Me 40 miles away car you've just sold me dead.

"Don't worry about it Barry, we will fix it, can you get it back to us?" sez Rick.

"Bit large for parcel post, can't tow it (auto). Needs to be recovered." sez I.

"Oh dear" sez Rick.

The story will continue if you want it too... and when I have the next update.

Welcome to the world of Nissan 300 ZX ownership. It smells of leather, and anti-freeze.

The HICAS light and speedo dieing may be the speed converter or speed sensor.

The HICAS light can come on for two reasons, firstly low fluid and secondly if the steering wheel is installed 'off centre'. Therefore, if you drive in a straight line for a while with the steering wheel away from the centre position then the HICAS identifies a fault and is disabled.

That might be why it comes on after about three minutes or so of driving. I stopped and restarted the car (before the coolent blew) and the HICAS light went out but the speedo still failed to read.

I wonder if a belt has come off or snapped - hence the overheating - and the 'thump'. The hicas and overheating is too much of a coincidence.

My professional opinion is that it sounds Fooked!:(

not good barry for a new purchase

Geoff.

Barry,

Sorry to hear about your troubles mate , hopefully the garage will be able to sort out the probs and all will be OK

S'true Geoff. Not happy at the moment, but the dealer is getting his finger out (I hope). I'll have to wait and see what happens with it.

OK it looks like a hose has gone. So I'm getting a mobile mechanic to fix it, then once it's drivable again they will send a driver to RTB it and fix the HICAS and Speedo. Ohh an cover my mobile mechanic costs. Colour me impressed with the service so far.
