Pls Help

I have noticed over the past few days that my autobox in Drive mode seems to be slipping (Does not acc that quick), but if I use the box as a manual ( selecting postion 1 then into 2 and so on ) the car seems to have more power to the rear wheels.

Does this mean that my box is on the way out. I have done a autobox test and no fault codes are showing up it says all clear.

I did think that the clutches within the box may be slipping but I would have thought that these would also slip when I use the box as I said above.

I just hope that it is not going to cost much if something is on its way out as I have just spent out on a new exhaust system, and just in case you are thinking the box was the same two days prior to fitting the exhaust.

Any help or ideas would be gratefuly recieved thanks

Years ago when manually selecting the gears more presure was fed to the various clutches etc. DOnt know if this is still true or means anything to your prob.

do you have any other mods like launch/traction control which could be having an effect?

i gotta admit i know sweet nowt about autos but im trying. :)

another thought just crossed my tiny mind...

have you got a low g/box oil level or old oil or low pressure/leak?

i hear that auto's can be sensitive to this?

I do not have launch control fitted

Good idea about the fluid level will double check today and get the car up to see if I can see any leaks.

Cheers

good luck,Mark. If nothing else you can always throw it away and fit a manual.

If I could I would but buget a little tight at the moment, thats why I hope that it is something simple (I wish) on the autobox and is does not cost to much to fix

hope all goes ok for you. it should be something simple. im not too good with auto's but i'd hazard a guess at fluid. if it were doing it when using it as a manual tooo i'd say it was on its way but if you get good drive that way it must be something daft. im guessing wholly but i'd say the clutch actuator or whatever it uses to bite isnt getting enough fluid in drive. or the fluid's f#kt.

is it changing gear ok?

Now why would he want to make things worse ?..... :D

come on guys, why would it be fluid low when its ok in manual???????????

Old Fluid, Nope

Clutch Actuator? Whats that then? Do you mean the piston inside the drum where the clutch plates are?

If you gearbox is slipping it will burn the plates and or the bands. This makes the fluid smell burnt. Try it. If its burnt, and sometimes you can actually see that the fluid is contaminated with bits from the friction surfaces, your box has probably had it....

If it is not burnt there is hope.

I have just checked the trans fluid and it is as clean as the day it went in, does not smell burnt and it does not have and bits in it.

I have disconected the ecu to reset it and the auto ecu to see if that makes any difference, because I did notice that when the box is in "D" the "POWER" light would come on when you acc hard, so it may be an electronic fault (hope).

I would just like to thank the people that have come back with ideas.

Cheers

If it is then it has only been doing it on mine for the past week, because I have not noticed it before. And the only way that I can get the light to go out afterwards is to flick the "HOLD, AT, POWER" switch !!

The more and more that I think of the problem it is pointing towards an electronic fault.

Show me posts which says, "My Manual gearbox is losing power in certain gears" or "I cant change tto 3rd." ;)

All that happens to a manual is the clutch slipping which you expect to happen after so many miles. ;)

Or crunchy changes, or the bite point wandering, or a loose gate making it tricky to find 4th, or...

Then again you can generally fix all those things easily!
